Sobre César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport

César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport (ACE) is the only airport on Lanzarote, the easternmost of Spain's Canary Islands. It stands in the municipality of San Bartolomé on the island's south coast, about 5 km (3 miles) southwest of Arrecife, and is run by Aena. Most travelers simply call it Lanzarote Airport or Arrecife Airport.

Most flights come from the UK, Ireland and continental Europe. Ryanair, Jet2.com, easyJet and TUI fly the most routes, joined by British Airways, Aer Lingus, Condor, Eurowings, Transavia, Vueling and others, while Binter and Canaryfly link Lanzarote with the other islands. The airport handled about 8.9 million passengers in 2025.

There are two terminals side by side: Terminal 1 handles international flights and flights from mainland Spain, and Terminal 2 handles inter-island flights within the Canaries.

The main resorts are close. Puerto del Carmen is about 10 km (6 miles) west along the coast, a drive of around 15 minutes, with Puerto Calero just beyond it. Costa Teguise, on the other side of Arrecife, is a similar drive, and Playa Blanca, in the far south, is about 32 km (20 miles) away, roughly 30 to 40 minutes by car.

Consejos de llegada a César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport

Flights from Spain and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks. If you come from outside the Schengen area, such as the UK or Ireland, you line up at passport control in Terminal 1, where non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System. The Canary Islands are outside the EU customs and VAT area, so follow the customs channels after baggage claim.

International and mainland Spanish flights arrive at Terminal 1; inter-island flights from Gran Canaria, Tenerife and the other islands arrive at Terminal 2, next door. In Terminal 1, baggage claim leads into the arrivals hall on Floor 0, where you find the Cabildo de Lanzarote tourist information office, the car rental desks and the airport's meeting point.

Outside arrivals, on Floor 0 of each terminal, are the bus stops and the official taxi stand. Pre-booked drivers meet passengers in the arrivals hall. Take taxis only from the signed rank.

The Canary Islands are one hour behind mainland Spain, and Spain uses the euro.

Transporte terrestre

Buses are cheap and reach Arrecife and the southern resorts; a taxi or pre-booked car is easier with luggage, late at night or for villas away from the bus routes.

  • Bus to Arrecife

Bus lines 22 (weekdays) and 23 (weekends) leave from Floor 0 at arrivals of both terminals and reach Arrecife in about 10 to 15 minutes. They run from early morning until about 23:00.

  • Bus to Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca

Line 161 runs from the airport to Puerto del Carmen, Puerto Calero, Yaiza and Playa Blanca, with late-evening lines 61 and 162 on the same route. Buses stop on the main roads, not at each hotel, so allow for a walk with your bags.

  • Taxi from Lanzarote Airport

Official metered taxis wait at the signed rank on Floor 0 at arrivals of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and go door to door across the island. Aena advises taking a taxi only from the rank and asking for a receipt if you may need to complain.

  • Car rental

Car rental companies have desks in the arrivals areas, useful if you want to explore Timanfaya, the north of the island or the beaches at your own pace.

  • Private transfer

A pre-booked car meets you in the arrivals hall, suited to families, groups, late arrivals and villas or rentals away from the bus routes.

Aena advises passengers with a connection between an inter-island and an international flight to check with their airline, because each terminal has its own security checkpoint: Terminal 1 on Floor 1, Terminal 2 on Floor 0.

Preguntas frecuentes

How far is Lanzarote Airport from Puerto del Carmen?

Puerto del Carmen is about 10 km (6 miles) west of Lanzarote Airport along the coast road, a drive of around 15 minutes in normal traffic. Puerto Calero is a few minutes farther on. Bus line 161 also runs from the airport to Puerto del Carmen, and taxis wait at the rank outside arrivals.

How far is Lanzarote Airport from Playa Blanca?

Playa Blanca, at the southern tip of Lanzarote, is about 32 km (20 miles) from the airport, roughly 30 to 40 minutes by car. Bus line 161 runs there by way of Puerto del Carmen, Puerto Calero and Yaiza, with late-evening lines 61 and 162, and taxis go door to door from the arrivals rank.

How far is Lanzarote Airport from Arrecife and Costa Teguise?

Arrecife, the island capital, is about 5 km (3 miles) northeast of the airport, around 10 minutes by car, and buses 22 and 23 link the two. Costa Teguise lies just beyond Arrecife on the east coast, usually a 10 to 15 minute drive from the airport by taxi or pre-booked car.

Is Lanzarote Airport the same as Arrecife Airport?

Yes. César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport, code ACE, is the island's only airport, and travelers and airlines also call it Lanzarote Airport or Arrecife Airport. It took the name of the Lanzarote artist César Manrique in 2019. The site is also known locally as Guacimeta, after the area where the first airfield stood.

How many terminals does Lanzarote Airport have?

Lanzarote Airport has two terminals side by side. Terminal 1 handles international flights and flights from mainland Spain, and Terminal 2 handles inter-island flights within the Canary Islands. Each has its own arrivals area, taxi stand and bus stop on Floor 0, so check which terminal your flight uses.

How do I get from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 at Lanzarote Airport?

You walk. The terminals are next to each other: leave Terminal 2 arrivals, turn left toward Terminal 1, cross at the pedestrian crossing and follow the covered walkway to the Terminal 1 arrivals entrance. Each terminal has its own security checkpoint, so ask your airline about connections between inter-island and international flights.

Which airlines fly to Lanzarote?

Ryanair, Jet2.com, easyJet and TUI fly the most routes, mainly to the UK, Ireland and continental Europe. British Airways, Aer Lingus, Condor, Discover, Eurowings, Transavia, Norwegian, Edelweiss and Luxair add more, Vueling, Air Europa and Ryanair link the island with mainland Spain, and Binter and Canaryfly fly to the other Canary Islands.

Is there a bus from Lanzarote Airport?

Yes. Public buses stop on Floor 0 at arrivals of both terminals. Line 22 runs to Arrecife on weekdays and line 23 on weekends, and line 161 runs to Puerto del Carmen, Puerto Calero, Yaiza and Playa Blanca. Late-evening lines 61 and 162 cover the route south. Buses stop on main roads, not at hotels.

Where is the taxi stand at Lanzarote Airport?

The official taxi stands are on Floor 0 at arrivals of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Taxis are metered, using fares approved by the Canary Islands government, with a supplement for airport trips. Aena advises taking a taxi only from the rank, not from drivers who approach you elsewhere, and asking for a receipt.

What do I need to enter Spain at Lanzarote Airport?

Lanzarote is part of Spain and the Schengen area. Flights from other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks, while arrivals from outside it, including the UK and Ireland, go through passport control, where non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES). Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.

Are there duty-free limits when flying to Lanzarote?

Yes. The Canary Islands are in the Schengen area but outside the EU VAT and customs area, so duty-free allowances on tobacco, alcohol and other goods apply when you arrive and when you fly home, even on flights to mainland Spain. Arrivals with goods to declare, or cash over 10,000 euros, must use the customs channel.

Is there a lounge at Lanzarote Airport?

Yes. The Guacimeta VIP Lounge is in the Terminal 1 boarding area, opposite gates 1 and 2, and serves Schengen and non-Schengen flights. It opens from 6:00 to 22:00 or until the last scheduled flight. Pay-per-entry passes are sold through Aena and allow a stay of up to three hours before your flight.

What time zone is Lanzarote in?

Lanzarote and the rest of the Canary Islands use Western European Time, UTC+0, moving to UTC+1 for summer time from late March to late October. That is one hour behind mainland Spain, including Madrid and Barcelona, so check connection times and pickup times against local Canary time.
