Rome–Ciampino G. B. Pastine International Airport (CIA) is Rome's second airport, serving the Italian capital from the town of Ciampino in Lazio. It sits about 12 km (7.5 miles) southeast of central Rome, just outside the GRA ring road and beside the Via Appia Nuova, and the drive to the historic center usually takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.
Ciampino is a low-cost and business aviation airport. Ryanair flies almost all of its scheduled routes, linking Rome with cities such as London Stansted, Manchester, Edinburgh, Budapest, Prague, Kraków, Bucharest and Marrakesh, with seasonal flights to Greek islands and Cyprus. Most long-haul and full-service flights use Rome Fiumicino instead. The airport handled about 3.9 million passengers in 2024.
All passenger flights use a single low-rise terminal, with departures and arrivals in separate areas. There are no jet bridges, so passengers walk or ride a bus between the aircraft and the terminal.
From the airport, most travelers head into central Rome, to hotels near the Colosseum, Roma Termini, Trastevere and Vatican City. Others stop in the Castelli Romani hill towns such as Frascati, close by to the southeast, or continue to Fiumicino Airport for a connecting flight.

Flights from Italy and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks. If you fly in from outside the Schengen area, such as the UK, Morocco or Albania, you line up at passport control, where non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES).
There are no jet bridges at Ciampino, so expect to walk across the apron or ride a bus from the aircraft to the terminal. Arrivals has its own area of the terminal with four baggage belts; after baggage claim you walk through customs into the arrivals hall, where currency exchange and ATMs are available.
Outside, licensed white taxis wait at the taxi stand by arrivals, and the shuttle buses to Roma Termini and the Ciampino Airlink bus to the train station leave from stops across from departures. Pre-booked drivers usually meet you in the arrivals hall. Decline offers from people who approach you inside the terminal.
Italy is on Central European Time and uses the euro.
The shuttle buses are the cheapest way to Roma Termini; a taxi or pre-booked car is easier with luggage or for addresses away from Termini.
Terravision, SIT and Rome Airport Bus run coaches from the stops across from departures to Roma Termini, a ride of about 40 to 55 minutes depending on traffic. Buy tickets online or from the agents in arrivals.
Trenitalia's Ciampino Airlink combines a shuttle bus from the airport to Ciampino station with a regional train to Roma Termini on one ticket. It avoids road traffic into the city but means one change with your bags.
ATRAL buses run to Roma Anagnina, the end of Metro line A, and to Ciampino railway station. From Anagnina the Metro runs through the city to Termini, Spagna and Ottaviano near the Vatican.
Licensed white taxis wait at the taxi stand by arrivals. The City of Rome sets a fixed fare from Ciampino to destinations inside the Aurelian Walls of the historic center, and to Fiumicino Airport.
A pre-booked driver meets you in the arrivals hall and drives you straight to your hotel or rental, which is easiest for families, groups and late arrivals.

Ciampino Airport is about 12 km (7.5 miles) southeast of central Rome, just outside the GRA ring road. By road the drive to the historic center usually takes 30 to 45 minutes, longer at rush hour. Shuttle buses to Roma Termini take about 40 to 55 minutes, and the Ciampino Airlink bus and train combination avoids most road traffic.
No. Rome has two airports. Ciampino (CIA) is the smaller one, southeast of the city, used mainly by Ryanair. Fiumicino (FCO) is the main international airport, on the coast west of Rome. Both are run by Aeroporti di Roma, so check the code on your ticket before you plan your transport.
The simplest way is a shuttle bus: Terravision, SIT and Rome Airport Bus run coaches from the stops across from departures to Roma Termini in about 40 to 55 minutes. Trenitalia's Ciampino Airlink is a bus to Ciampino station plus a train to Termini on one ticket. A taxi or pre-booked car goes straight to your hotel.
Not from the terminal itself. Ciampino has no railway station of its own, but the Ciampino Airlink bus links the airport with Ciampino railway station in the town, where regional trains run to Roma Termini. One ticket covers both the bus and the train, and the train avoids road traffic into the city.
Yes, with a bus first. ATRAL buses run from the airport to Roma Anagnina, the end of Metro line A. From there line A crosses the city to Termini, Spagna and Ottaviano near the Vatican. It is a cheap option, though the change of bus and Metro is harder with large suitcases.
Licensed taxis wait at the taxi stand by the arrivals area. Rome's official taxis are white with a TAXI sign on the roof and the city's emblem and license number on the doors. The City of Rome sets a fixed fare from Ciampino to the historic center inside the Aurelian Walls. Decline rides offered inside the terminal.
Ciampino has one passenger terminal, with departures and arrivals in separate areas of the same low-rise building. Departures has 31 check-in desks and 16 gates, and arrivals has four baggage belts. A separate General Aviation Terminal serves private and business jets. There are no jet bridges, so passengers walk or take a bus to the aircraft.
Ryanair operates almost all scheduled flights at Ciampino, to cities such as London Stansted, Manchester, Edinburgh, Budapest, Prague, Kraków, Bucharest, Marrakesh and Fez, with seasonal routes to Greek islands and Cyprus. Ciampino is also busy with private, business and state flights. Most full-service and long-haul airlines use Rome Fiumicino instead.
There is no airline or pay-per-use passenger lounge confirmed at Ciampino. The departures area past security has coffee bars, a gelateria, fast-food outlets, WHSmith and duty-free shopping, and a cafeteria is open before security. Business and private jet passengers use the separate General Aviation Terminal, which has its own facilities.
Italy is in the Schengen area, so flights from other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks. Arrivals from outside it, such as the UK or Morocco, go through passport control. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026. Check passport validity and visa rules for your nationality.
There is no rail link between Rome's two airports. Some shuttle bus companies run a limited number of direct coaches between Ciampino and Fiumicino; otherwise you travel through Roma Termini by bus and train. A taxi has a fixed fare set by the City of Rome, and a pre-booked car goes terminal to terminal with your luggage.
Aeroporti di Roma runs open-air parking lots next to the terminal: P3 for short stays, about 200 m from departures, and P4, P5/P7 and P6 for longer stays. The first 15 minutes are free in P3, P4 and P5/P7. You can book ADR parking online before you travel.
Ciampino, like the rest of Italy, is on Central European Time (UTC+1) and moves to daylight saving time (UTC+2) from late March to late October. Italy uses the euro, and there are ATMs and a currency exchange desk in the arrivals area, with card payments widely accepted.
