Sobre Innsbruck Airport

Innsbruck Airport (INN) is the airport for Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol in western Austria. It stands in the Kranebitten district on the floor of the Inn valley, about 4 km (2.5 miles) west of the city center, with the Nordkette range rising to the north. The mountain approach makes it a Category C airport, where pilots need special training to land.

Austrian Airlines links Innsbruck with Vienna all year, easyJet flies to London Gatwick and Transavia to Amsterdam. In winter the schedule grows with ski flights from the UK, Scandinavia and the Netherlands on British Airways, easyJet, Jet2.com, TUI Airways, Scandinavian Airlines and others, while summer adds holiday flights to Greece and the Mediterranean. The airport handled about 883,000 passengers in 2025.

All flights use one terminal, first opened for the 1964 Winter Olympics, with separate Schengen and non-Schengen departure areas. Bus line F stops in front of it and reaches Innsbruck main station in about 20 minutes.

From the airport, travelers head into Innsbruck's Old Town and up to Igls, or on to the Tyrol ski areas: Seefeld, the Stubai Valley, the Zillertal and Mayrhofen, Sölden in the Ötztal, St. Anton am Arlberg, Ischgl and Kitzbühel.

Consejos de llegada a Innsbruck Airport

Flights from Austria and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks. If you fly in from outside the Schengen area, such as the UK, you go through passport control first, where non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES). The airport expects longer processing times at passport control in the winter season.

Innsbruck has one small terminal, so there is no terminal to choose: after baggage claim you walk through customs into the arrivals hall. The lost and found counters, an ATM and the information desk are there if you need them, and the Airport Shop in the public area sells bus tickets.

Outside the terminal, the taxi stand is directly in front of the building, and city bus line F stops there for Innsbruck main station. The car rental center is close by, reached on a covered walkway. Pre-booked drivers usually meet you in the arrivals hall.

Austria is on Central European Time and uses the euro.

Transporte terrestre

Bus F is the cheap way into Innsbruck; a taxi or pre-booked car is easier with ski bags or for the mountain resorts.

  • Bus F to Innsbruck main station

City bus line F stops in front of the terminal and runs to Innsbruck main station in about 20 minutes, about every 15 minutes from morning to evening. Tickets are sold at the Airport Shop, and the bus has little room for ski bags.

  • Train from Innsbruck main station

There is no rail station at the airport: take bus F to Innsbruck main station for ÖBB regional and long-distance trains across Tyrol, Vorarlberg, South Tyrol and Bavaria. It means a change with your luggage.

  • Taxi from Innsbruck airport

The taxi stand is directly in front of the terminal. Taxis go door to door into the city; fares depend on vehicle size and luggage, and longer trips to the ski resorts are best agreed in advance.

  • Private transfer

A pre-booked car or van meets you in the arrivals hall, useful for families, groups with ski gear and trips to resorts such as Seefeld, the Stubai Valley and the Zillertal.

  • Car rental

Alamo, Enterprise, National, Avis, Budget, Buchbinder, Europcar, Hertz, Rent Easy Tirol and Sixt operate from the car rental center beside the terminal, reached by a covered walkway. In winter, mountain roads can call for snow chains.
