Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is the main airport for Jacksonville, Florida, in the United States, and for the surrounding corner of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. It sits about 13 miles north of downtown Jacksonville.
American, Delta, United and Southwest connect Jacksonville with their hubs and with cities across the country, and JetBlue, Frontier, Allegiant, Breeze, Avelo and Sun Country add more direct routes, many of them seasonal. San Juan, Puerto Rico, is the farthest destination served year-round.
The airport has one terminal. Ticketing is on the upper level and baggage claim on the lower level, with security leading to two concourses, A and C, with 10 gates each. A new Concourse B is under construction and is due to open in early 2027.
From the airport, travelers head into downtown Jacksonville and the beaches, north to Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach, or south to Ponte Vedra and St. Augustine.

JAX is a domestic airport, so almost every arrival comes straight from the gate into the terminal without customs. From Concourse A or C, follow the signs back through the central building to baggage claim on the lower level.
Once you have your bags, follow the ground transportation signs outside. Taxis, rideshare, hotel shuttles and pre-booked cars each have their own signposted pickup area. The JTA Route 1 bus runs between the airport and downtown Jacksonville, where it connects with the Skyway and Greyhound, but it is slow if you are heading to the beaches or St. Augustine.
If someone is collecting you by car, note that the hourly parking garage has been closed since a fire in May 2025, so check where the airport is asking drivers to wait or park on the day.
Jacksonville is on Eastern Time. Summers are hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November.
Most travelers use a taxi, rideshare or pre-booked car, as the airport is 13 miles from downtown and the beaches are further still.
A pre-booked car meets you outside baggage claim, the easiest option for Amelia Island, Ponte Vedra, St. Augustine and groups with luggage.
Taxis wait at the signposted rank outside the terminal. Door to door, but fares add up on longer trips to the beaches.
Rideshare apps pick up at the signposted zone outside the terminal. Fares rise at busy times.
Runs between the airport and downtown Jacksonville, with connections to the Skyway and Greyhound. The cheapest option, but slow.

Jacksonville International Airport is about 13 miles north of downtown Jacksonville, in Duval County. Most travelers drive or take a taxi or rideshare; the JTA Route 1 bus also runs between the airport and downtown.
JAX has one terminal with two concourses, A and C, and 20 gates in total. Ticketing is upstairs, baggage claim downstairs, and one checkpoint leads to both concourses. A new Concourse B is under construction and due to open in early 2027.
American, Delta, United and Southwest carry most passengers at JAX, with flights to their hubs and other US cities. JetBlue, Frontier, Allegiant, Breeze, Avelo and Sun Country also fly here, several of them seasonally.
Not regularly. JAX is essentially a domestic airport. The farthest year-round destination is San Juan, Puerto Rico, a US territory, served by JetBlue and Frontier. Seasonal service to Toronto was listed in the past but appears to have ended.
Partly. A vehicle fire in May 2025 closed the hourly parking garage, and repairs are expected to last until summer 2027. A new garage of about 2,000 spaces is due to open in late 2026. Check the airport's current parking options before you drive.
JAX is the nearest major airport to both. Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach lie to the northeast, and Ponte Vedra and St. Augustine to the south, beyond downtown Jacksonville. Most visitors reach them by car, taxi, rideshare or pre-booked transfer.
