Sobre Jorge Chávez International Airport

Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) is the main airport of Lima and of Peru, located in Callao. It is run by Lima Airport Partners, a concessionaire led by Fraport, and handled about 25.5 million passengers in 2025.

LATAM Airlines, Sky Airline and JetSMART fly from Lima to cities across Peru, including Cusco, Arequipa, Iquitos and Trujillo, and to South America. International carriers include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines to the United States, Avianca and Copa Airlines to Bogotá and Panama City, Aeroméxico to Mexico City, and Iberia, Air Europa, Air France and KLM to Europe.

Since June 1, 2025, all passenger flights use a new terminal on the west side of the airfield, reached from Avenida Morales Duárez over temporary modular bridges. The airport sits about 11 km northwest of Lima's historic center and about 17 km from Miraflores; a permanent access, the Santa Rosa bridge, is still under construction.

From the airport, travelers head to Miraflores, Barranco and San Isidro, to Lima's historic center, or on to Cusco and Machu Picchu, Arequipa, the Amazon around Iquitos, and Paracas on the southern coast.

Consejos de llegada a Jorge Chávez International Airport

On an international flight you clear Peruvian immigration first. Entry rules depend on your nationality; passports are no longer stamped at Lima, and Migraciones creates an electronic entry record, the virtual Andean Migration Card (TAM), that you can download from its website.

After immigration, collect your bags in the baggage hall and pass through customs into the arrivals hall on the first floor of the new terminal. Information desks, authorized taxi desks and the Airport Express Lima counter are in this area.

For a taxi, book at one of the authorized taxi desks; those cars board in a controlled lane on the first floor reserved for vehicles approved by the airport. Do not accept rides from people offering taxis inside the hall. App taxis and private cars use separate pickup areas outside, so wait inside until your driver confirms the plate.

Lima is mild and dry, with grey skies in winter. Peru uses UTC-5 with no daylight saving time, and the currency is the Peruvian sol (PEN).

Transporte terrestre

Authorized airport taxis and pre-booked transfers suit most travelers, while Airport Express Lima is the main bus option to Miraflores.

  • Taxi from Lima airport

Book at the authorized taxi desks in the arrivals hall; cars pick up in the first-floor controlled lane reserved for vehicles approved by Lima Airport Partners. They are available around the clock, though queues can form when several international flights land together.

  • Airport Express Lima

The official airport bus stops at four points in Miraflores, including Parque Kennedy and Larcomar, and takes about 45 to 70 minutes depending on traffic. Its counter is near the arrivals exits; it runs roughly hourly in the daytime and not overnight.

  • AeroDirecto bus

Public AeroDirecto buses set up by the transport ministry and Lima's transport authority (ATU) link the airport with Lima Norte, central Lima, Pueblo Libre and Callao. They do not serve Miraflores directly and are best for travelers with light luggage.

  • App taxis

App-based taxis that meet ATU requirements can pick up at the terminal, and the app shows the designated pickup zone. Wait inside until you see the car's plate.

  • Private transfer

A pre-booked driver meets you in the arrivals hall and walks you to the car. Traffic in Lima and Callao is heavy, so allow extra time at rush hour.

Preguntas frecuentes

How far is Lima airport from Miraflores?

Jorge Chávez International Airport is about 17 km from Miraflores by road. Airport Express Lima buses take about 45 to 70 minutes to reach their four Miraflores stops, depending on traffic. Taxis and transfers follow similar routes through Callao, and traffic at rush hour can add a lot of time, so plan accordingly if you have a connection.

Is Lima airport in Lima?

Jorge Chávez International Airport is in Callao, a separate region that forms part of the Lima metropolitan area. It sits about 11 km northwest of Lima's historic center and about 17 km from Miraflores. The new terminal is on the west side of the airport and is reached by road from Avenida Morales Duárez.

How many terminals does Lima airport have?

Jorge Chávez International Airport has one passenger terminal. The new terminal opened on June 1, 2025, and handles all domestic and international flights. It was built with 59 gates, 46 with jet bridges, and capacity for about 30 million passengers a year. The old terminal on Avenida Faucett no longer handles passenger flights.

How do I get to the new Lima airport terminal?

The new terminal is reached from Avenida Morales Duárez over temporary modular bridges, and Avenida Faucett no longer leads to passenger services. A permanent access, the Santa Rosa bridge, is under construction, with its main structure expected in mid-2027. Allow extra time for traffic on the access roads, especially at peak hours, when heading to the airport.

Which airlines fly from Lima airport?

LATAM Airlines, Sky Airline and JetSMART run most domestic flights, to cities such as Cusco, Arequipa, Iquitos and Trujillo. International airlines include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Avianca, Copa Airlines, Aeroméxico, Iberia, Air Europa, Air France and KLM. All of them use the single new terminal, so there is no terminal to choose.

Are taxis safe at Lima airport?

Use the authorized taxi desks in the arrivals hall, whose cars board in a controlled first-floor lane reserved for vehicles approved by the airport operator. App-based taxis that meet the city transport authority's rules can also pick up at the terminal. Avoid offers from people approaching you inside the terminal, and confirm the car's plate before getting in.

Is there a bus from Lima airport to Miraflores?

Yes. Airport Express Lima is the official airport bus to Miraflores, stopping at four points including Parque Kennedy and Larcomar. Its counter is near the arrivals exits, buses run roughly hourly from about 07:00 to 22:00, and the trip takes about 45 to 70 minutes. The buses have Wi-Fi and USB charging.

What is AeroDirecto at Lima airport?

AeroDirecto is a public bus service set up by Peru's transport ministry and Lima's transport authority (ATU) when the new terminal opened. Its routes link the airport with Lima Norte, central Lima around Quilca, Pueblo Libre and Javier Prado, and Callao and Ventanilla. It does not go directly to Miraflores or Barranco.

Can I use Uber or other apps at Lima airport?

Yes. App-based taxis that meet the requirements of Lima's transport authority (ATU) are allowed to pick up at the new terminal, and the app shows the designated pickup zone. Wait inside the terminal until the app shows your car's plate, then walk out to meet it rather than waiting outside with your luggage.

Do I need a form to enter Peru?

No paper form is needed at Lima. Peru stopped stamping passports at its main international airports, and Migraciones generates an electronic entry record, the virtual Andean Migration Card (TAM), during immigration control. You can download it free from the Migraciones website. Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality, so check before you travel.

How do I get from Lima airport to Cusco and Machu Picchu?

Most travelers connect to a domestic flight to Cusco, the base for Machu Picchu, from the same terminal at Jorge Chávez. LATAM Airlines, Sky Airline and JetSMART all fly Lima to Cusco. Other popular onward flights include Arequipa, Puerto Maldonado and Iquitos, while Paracas on the southern coast is usually reached by road.

What time zone and currency does Lima use?

Lima uses Peru Time, UTC-5, all year, with no daylight saving time. The currency is the Peruvian sol (PEN). Lima's coastal climate is dry, with almost no rain; summers from December to April are warm and sunny, while winters from June to September are mild and often grey and misty.
