Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) is the main airport for Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. Its full official name is Las Américas International Airport José Francisco Peña Gómez, and locals often call it AILA. Aerodom, part of VINCI Airports, runs it, and it handled about 5.3 million passengers in 2025.
JetBlue is the largest airline here, with flights to New York, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and San Juan. Arajet, the Dominican low-cost airline, is based at the airport and flies across the Caribbean and Latin America, while American, Delta, United, Copa, Avianca, Iberia, Air Europa and Air Caraïbes link Santo Domingo with Miami, Atlanta, Newark, Panama City, Bogotá, Madrid and Paris.
Passengers use one terminal building with two wings, Terminal A and Terminal B, and a new terminal is under construction for 2028.
The airport stands at Punta Caucedo, on the coast roughly 20 to 30 km (12 to 19 miles) east of Santo Domingo's city center, usually 30 to 45 minutes away along the Autopista Las Américas. From here travelers head into the Colonial Zone, the hotels along the Malecón and the business districts of Piantini and Naco, or east to the beaches of Boca Chica and Juan Dolio.

Before you fly, complete the free Dominican e-Ticket online; it replaces the old paper entry, customs and health forms, and immigration scans its QR code. The tourist card fee is included in most airfares. Visa rules depend on your nationality.
At immigration, officers check your passport at the passport control booths, and some travelers can use the automated Autogate lanes. Then collect your bags from the carousel, where luggage carts are free, and pass through customs into the arrivals area.
Exchange desks, ATMs and phone company counters for local SIM cards are in the terminal. Outside, official airport taxis wait at the taxi stand, Uber has signposted pickup areas, and pre-booked drivers wait with a name sign. Several drivers may offer rides as you come out, so go only with your arranged driver or an official taxi.
The Dominican Republic is on Atlantic Standard Time (UTC-4) all year and uses the Dominican peso (DOP).
A taxi or a pre-booked car is the easiest way into Santo Domingo, since there is no train or airport express bus.
Official airport taxis wait at the taxi stand outside arrivals, run around the clock, and take about 30 to 45 minutes to the city center. Fares are set by destination, so confirm the price before you get in.
A pre-booked driver meets you outside arrivals with a name sign and goes straight to your hotel, apartment or the beaches of Boca Chica and Juan Dolio. It must be arranged before you land.
Uber picks up at the airport from signposted pickup areas, which vary by service type. Finding your car can take a few minutes at busy times.
Rental companies, including National, have counters at the airport. A car suits travelers heading beyond the capital, but city traffic in Santo Domingo can be heavy.
Local minibuses run along the Autopista Las Américas toward Santo Domingo and Boca Chica. They are the cheapest option but have little room for luggage and no fixed stops at the terminal.

Yes. Every traveler entering or leaving the Dominican Republic by air needs the free e-Ticket, completed online at eticket.migracion.gob.do before airline check-in. It replaces the old paper immigration, customs and health forms and creates a QR code that officers scan at immigration. Visa rules depend on your nationality, so check them before you fly.
Usually not. The Dominican tourist card fee is included in most airline tickets, so most visitors do not buy anything on arrival. If you are unsure, check your ticket's tax breakdown or ask your airline before you fly. The free e-Ticket is a separate online form that every traveler must still complete.
