Sobre Halifax Stanfield International Airport

Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) is the main airport for Halifax and for Nova Scotia, on Canada's Atlantic coast. It stands in Goffs, in the rural north of the Halifax Regional Municipality, beside Highway 102, about 30 minutes by road from downtown Halifax and a little less from Dartmouth.

Air Canada, Porter Airlines and WestJet fly the most routes, linking Halifax with Toronto, Montréal, Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver and cities across Atlantic Canada. Flair Airlines, Pascan Aviation and Air Canada Express add more domestic flights, while American, Delta Connection and United Express fly to Boston, New York, Chicago and Washington. In summer, WestJet, Air Canada, Icelandair and Edelweiss add flights to Europe, and winter brings sun routes to the Caribbean and Florida. The airport handled about 4.1 million passengers in 2025.

All flights use one terminal, with check-in and security upstairs and baggage claim and ground transportation on the arrivals level. Flights to the United States leave from a separate U.S. departures area after US preclearance, and the Alt Hotel stands across the road from the terminal.

From the airport, most travelers head to downtown Halifax and its waterfront, Dartmouth, Bedford and the cruise terminals at the Halifax Seaport. Others drive on to Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg, the Annapolis Valley or Truro.

Consejos de llegada a Halifax Stanfield International Airport

If you fly in from outside Canada, including from the United States, you clear Canadian border services before baggage claim. You can fill in the Advance Declaration in the ArriveCAN app or on the web before landing to save time at the kiosks, then see a border officer. Most visa-exempt visitors need an approved eTA before boarding a flight to Canada; US citizens do not.

Halifax has one terminal, so domestic and international passengers all end up on the same arrivals level. Collect your bags at baggage claim, then walk out to the arrivals area, where the Ground Transportation booth sells Halifax Transit tickets and can request a taxi, including an accessible one.

Taxis, limousines and car services wait curbside outside Arrivals, and rideshare pickups use marked spaces on the ground transportation curb: turn right outside the Arrivals doors near the booth and follow the signs. Car rental desks are on the lower level of the parkade, and the Regional Express 320 bus leaves for Dartmouth and downtown Halifax. Pre-booked drivers usually meet passengers in the arrivals area.

Nova Scotia is on Atlantic Time and uses the Canadian dollar.

Transporte terrestre

A taxi or pre-booked car is the simplest way into Halifax with luggage; the 320 bus is the low-cost option for downtown.

  • Taxi from Halifax airport

Airport taxis, limousines and car services wait curbside outside Arrivals, and staff at the Ground Transportation booth can call one, including an accessible taxi. The ride to downtown Halifax takes about 30 minutes, and fares depend on your destination.

  • Regional Express 320 bus

Halifax Transit's Route 320 links the airport with Fall River, Dartmouth and downtown Halifax, and luggage is allowed on board. Tickets are sold around the clock at the Ground Transportation booth; it is the cheapest option but makes stops and does not go door to door.

Maritime Bus coaches serve the airport on routes across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, with a counter on the arrivals level. Book ahead, as departures are limited.

  • Rideshare

Uber and Lyft pickups use marked spaces on the ground transportation curb outside Arrivals: turn right outside the Arrivals doors near the Ground Transportation booth and follow the signs.

  • Car rental

Alamo, National, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Thrifty, Enterprise and Hertz have desks on the lower level of the airport parkade, a short walk from baggage claim.

  • Private transfer

Taxis and pre-booked cars go door to door, while Halifax Transit's Regional Express 320 bus stops in Fall River and Dartmouth on its way downtown and takes longer.

Is Halifax airport the same as Stanfield airport?

Yes. Halifax Stanfield International Airport, code YHZ, is the only commercial airport for Halifax and the main one for Nova Scotia. It was called Halifax International Airport until 2007, when it was renamed after Robert L. Stanfield, a former premier of Nova Scotia, so people call it Halifax Airport, Stanfield Airport or YHZ.

How many terminals does Halifax airport have?

Halifax has one terminal, the Air Terminal Building. Check-in, security and the gates are upstairs, and baggage claim, car rental access and ground transportation are on the arrivals level. Yes. Halifax Transit's Regional Express 320 runs between the airport and downtown Halifax, stopping in Fall River and Dartmouth, and luggage is allowed on board. Where are the taxis at Halifax airport?

Airport taxis, limousines and car services wait curbside outside Arrivals for all passengers. Staff at the Ground Transportation booth in the arrivals area can call a taxi for you, including a wheelchair-accessible one. Does Halifax airport have US preclearance?

Yes. Passengers flying to the United States clear US immigration and customs at Halifax before boarding, then wait in the U.S. departures area.
