Sobre London International Airport

London International Airport (YXU) serves London, Ontario, in southwestern Canada. It is not one of the airports of London, England, such as Heathrow or Gatwick; YXU is a regional airport between Toronto and Detroit.

Air Canada flies several times a day to Toronto Pearson, and WestJet connects the city with Calgary year-round and with Winnipeg in the warmer months. Porter Airlines starts winter flights to Cancún, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Montego Bay from November 2026, and other leisure carriers have flown seasonal routes to Mexico and the Caribbean. The airport is operated by the Greater London International Airport Authority and handled about 298,000 passengers in 2025.

Everything runs through one terminal with check-in, a customs area staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency, and baggage claim. The airport sits about 10 km northeast of downtown London, and Toronto is about two hours away by road.

From YXU, travelers head to downtown London, Western University, Fanshawe College, Sarnia and the wider Greater Toronto Area.

Consejos de llegada a London International Airport

If you arrive on an international flight, you clear Canada Border Services Agency customs inside the terminal. Most visa-exempt visitors flying to Canada need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before boarding, while US citizens and Canadian travelers do not.

Baggage claim is next to the arrivals area, and with a single terminal and few flights at a time, the walk from the gate to the exit is short.

Outside the terminal, licensed taxis and limousines wait at the curb and charge regulated rates. Uber and Lyft pick up at the curb by the arrivals door at the north end of the sidewalk. London Transit buses also serve the airport. Pre-booked drivers usually meet you inside the arrivals area.

London, Ontario, is on Eastern Time (UTC−5, UTC−4 in summer), Canada uses the Canadian dollar, and winters bring snow and freezing temperatures.

A taxi or rideshare suits most travelers headed into London, while the city bus works for light packers with time to spare.

  • Rideshare

Uber and Lyft pick up at the curb in front of the terminal, by the arrivals door at the north end of the sidewalk. Wait times depend on how many drivers are nearby.

  • London Transit bus

London Transit Commission buses serve the airport about 14 times a day, with Route 36 linking the terminal and Fanshawe College. It is the cheapest option but needs a transfer for most of the city.

  • Bus to Sarnia

A daily bus runs between the airport and Sarnia. Check the City of Sarnia's transit website for the current timetable.

  • Private transfer

A pre-booked driver meets you in the arrivals area and drives you straight to your address in London or onward to other Ontario cities. It needs your flight details in advance.

  • Car rental

Rental car counters are in the terminal, which suits trips around southwestern Ontario. Winter driving can mean snow and icy roads.

Preguntas frecuentes

How far is London International Airport from downtown London, Ontario?

London International Airport is about 10 km northeast of downtown London, Ontario. Taxis and limousines wait outside the terminal, Uber and Lyft pick up at the curb, and London Transit buses also serve the airport. The airport sits on the city's northeast edge, close to Fanshawe College.

Is YXU the same as London, England's airports?

No. YXU is London International Airport in London, Ontario, Canada. It has no connection to London, England, whose airports include Heathrow (LHR), Gatwick (LGW), Stansted (STN), Luton (LTN) and London City (LCY). When booking or tagging bags, check that the code reads YXU and the destination shows Ontario, Canada, to avoid a costly mix-up.

How many terminals does London International Airport have?

London International Airport has one terminal that handles all domestic, US and sun-destination flights. Check-in, security, Canada Border Services Agency customs and baggage claim are all in the same building. With only a few flights at a time, distances inside the terminal are short and the walk from gate to curb takes little time.

Which airlines fly to London, Ontario?

Air Canada flies between London and Toronto Pearson several times a day, and WestJet serves Calgary year-round and Winnipeg seasonally. Porter Airlines begins winter flights to Cancún, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Montego Bay from November 2026. Leisure carriers have also flown seasonal routes to Mexico and the Caribbean, so check the airport's route map for the current season.

Are there taxis at London International Airport?

Yes. Licensed taxis and limousines operate outside the terminal and charge regulated rates set by the city. The ride to downtown London covers about 10 km. Late at night, when few flights land, fewer cars may be waiting, so travelers arriving on the last flights sometimes call a taxi company or use a rideshare app instead.

Is there a bus from London airport to downtown London?

Yes. London Transit Commission buses serve the airport about 14 times a day, and Route 36 links the terminal with Fanshawe College; from there you can change to other routes for downtown. The bus is the cheapest option, but the trip takes longer than a taxi and is awkward with large bags.

Can I use Uber or Lyft at London International Airport?

Yes. Uber and Lyft both operate at London International Airport. Pick-up is at the curb in front of the terminal, next to the arrivals door at the north end of the sidewalk. Waiting times depend on how many drivers are nearby, which can vary late at night or when several flights arrive together.

Do I need an eTA to fly into London, Ontario?

Most visa-exempt foreign nationals need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to board a flight to Canada, including flights that connect through Toronto to London. US citizens and Canadian citizens and permanent residents do not need one. Travelers from countries that require a visa need a Canadian visitor visa instead. Apply only through the Government of Canada website.

How far is London, Ontario, from Toronto?

London is about two hours from the Greater Toronto Area by road, mostly along Highway 401. From the airport you can drive or take a private transfer, or connect by air through Toronto Pearson on Air Canada's flights. VIA Rail trains to Toronto leave from London's downtown station, not from the airport, so you need a taxi or bus first.

How do I get from London airport to Sarnia?

A daily bus runs between London International Airport and Sarnia; the City of Sarnia publishes the current timetable on its website. Other options are a rental car from the counters in the terminal or a pre-booked private transfer. VIA Rail also serves Sarnia from London's downtown station, which you reach by taxi or city bus from the airport.

What time zone is London, Ontario, in?

London, Ontario, is on Eastern Time, UTC−5, and observes daylight saving time at UTC−4 from March to November, the same as Toronto and New York. Canada uses the Canadian dollar, and cards are widely accepted. Winters bring snow and freezing temperatures, so keep a warm coat handy if you land between December and March.

Who operates London International Airport and how busy is it?

YXU handled about 298,000 passengers in 2025, well below its 2019 record of about 683,000.
