Alexandroupoli Democritus Airport (AXD), officially Alexandroupoli Airport "Dimokritos" and named after the ancient philosopher, is the airport for Alexandroupoli and the Evros region of Thrace, in northeastern Greece. It sits near the village of Apalos, east of the city, and is run by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority.
The airport has one small terminal and only domestic flights: Aegean Airlines flies to Athens and, in season, to Heraklion, and Sky Express flies to Athens and Sitia in eastern Crete. With no passport control, baggage reclaim is quick, and pre-booked drivers meet passengers outside the arrivals exit.
Greece is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2) and switches to UTC+3 for daylight saving time from late March to late October.
Requisitos de entrada y notas locales
Schengen entry. Greece is in the Schengen area. All flights to Alexandroupoli are domestic, so travelers from outside the Schengen area clear passport control at their first Schengen airport, usually Athens. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation.
Samothrace ferry. Ferries to Samothrace (Samothraki) leave from Alexandroupoli port. Check the ferry timetable before you fly and give us your sailing time when you book.
Euro and cash. Greece uses the euro; carry some cash for small purchases.
