La Aurora International Airport (GUA) is Guatemala's main international gateway. It sits in Zone 13, inside Guatemala City rather than on its outskirts, and all international and domestic flights use one passenger terminal with 22 gates.
The arrivals flow is short: immigration first, then baggage claim and customs. A currency exchange desk, a SIM kiosk and an ATM are inside the secure area, so use them before you walk out. Pickup points are right outside the two main exits.
Guatemala is on Central Standard Time (UTC−6) all year, with no daylight saving time.
Electronic traveler declaration. Every air arrival completes Guatemala's free Declaración Jurada Regional de Viajero (DJRV) on the SAT website or app before flying. Customs asks for its QR code after baggage claim. Check visa rules for your nationality separately.
Addresses by zone. Guatemala City addresses are organized by numbered zones (zonas), and the same street number can repeat in different zones. Give the full address with its zone when you book.
Altitude. Guatemala City sits at about 1,500 meters, so evenings and early mornings can feel cool. Keep a light layer handy on arrival.
Quetzales. The local currency is the quetzal. Withdraw or exchange some before leaving the secure area, where the ATM most travelers recommend is located.
