Kraków John Paul II International Airport (KRK) is in the village of Balice, west of Kraków. All passenger flights use one terminal, with separate gate areas for Schengen and non-Schengen flights, and a covered walkway links it with the airport railway station, the multi-storey car park and an on-site hotel.
On a flight from outside the Schengen Area, such as from the UK, Turkey or the Middle East, you go through passport control; flights from Schengen countries normally arrive without a passport check. Baggage claim is on the ground floor, free luggage trolleys are available in the arrivals hall, and car rental desks are opposite the arrivals hall exit.
Kraków is on Central European Time (UTC+1) and switches to summer time (UTC+2) from late March to late October.
Schengen entry. Poland is in the Schengen Area. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Polish złoty. Poland uses the Polish złoty (PLN), not the euro, and cards are widely accepted.
Offers in the arrivals hall. Unauthorized taxis may charge more, so turn down drivers who approach you inside the arrivals hall and look for your pre-booked driver.
Winter weather. Winters in Kraków are cold and can bring snow, so pack warm layers between late autumn and early spring, especially for a trip up to Zakopane.
