Choose a sedan for two or a van for families and groups, and the driver takes you door to door to your hotel in Funchal, an apartment in Caniço or a villa up a steep hillside lane. Our Madeira airport shuttle is a private van for your party only, leaving as soon as you are through arrivals instead of stopping at other hotels along the way. It has room for suitcases, hiking gear and golf bags, which suits families, walking groups and golfers staying in Funchal or Caniço.

Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, widely known as Madeira Airport or Funchal Airport, sits in the municipality of Santa Cruz on Madeira's southeast coast, east of Funchal. It is operated by ANA Aeroportos de Portugal.
All flights use one terminal with separate Schengen and non-Schengen areas. There are no air bridges, so you walk or take a bus from the aircraft. Flights from mainland Portugal and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks; arrivals from outside Schengen go through passport control.
Baggage claim is on the arrivals level, and the terminal is compact, so the walk from the belts to the exit is short. Madeira runs on Western European Time (UTC+0, UTC+1 in summer), the same as Lisbon.
Schengen entry: Madeira is part of Portugal and the Schengen Area, so only flights from outside it pass passport control. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation.
Wind delays: Strong winds around the cliffs near the runway sometimes delay, cancel or divert flights. If your flight lands at another airport or a different day, tell customer service so your pickup can be moved.
Offers inside the terminal: Look for your driver's name sign in the arrivals hall and do not accept ride offers inside the building.
Hillside addresses: Many villas and quintas sit on steep, narrow lanes. Give the exact address and any gate or access notes when you book.
