Mytilene International Airport (MJT), named "Odysseas Elytis" after the Nobel Prize-winning poet, is the airport for the island of Lesbos in the northeastern Aegean. It sits on the coast south of Mytilene, the island's capital, and is run by Fraport Greece. All flights use one small terminal; a new terminal is planned.
Aegean Airlines flies to Athens and Thessaloniki, and Sky Express to Athens, Thessaloniki, Chios, Lemnos, Samos and Rhodes; international routes run mainly in summer. Flights from Athens and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks; if you come from outside the Schengen area, for example from the UK or Israel, you go through passport control. Two car rental companies have desks on site, and pre-booked drivers meet passengers outside the arrivals exit.
Greece is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2) and switches to UTC+3 for daylight saving time from late March to late October.
Schengen entry. Greece is in the Schengen area. Arrivals from outside it, for example from the UK or Israel, go through passport control. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Large island. Lesbos is a large island, and Molyvos, Petra, Eresos and Sigri are a long way from the airport, so plan your arrival day with that in mind.
Mytilene or Lesbos. Mytilene is the island's capital and the name of its airport; tickets and timetables may show Mytilene, Lesbos or Lesvos for the same place.
Euro and cash. Greece uses the euro; carry some cash for small purchases.
