Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW) serves Canada's capital and the neighbouring city of Gatineau, Quebec, from one terminal on three levels south of downtown Ottawa.
If you arrive from outside Canada, you clear Canadian border services first, using the primary inspection kiosks or Advance Declaration in the ArriveCAN app, then a border officer. Bags are collected on Level 1, where the arrivals hall and the ground transportation exits are.
Signs are in English and French. Ottawa is on Eastern Time and changes its clocks for daylight saving.
eTA or visa. Most visa-exempt visitors need an approved Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before flying to Canada.
Border declaration. You can complete Advance Declaration in the ArriveCAN app before you land to speed up Canadian border services.
Two languages. Ottawa is officially bilingual: airport signs are in English and French, and staff serve passengers in both.
Ottawa or Gatineau. Gatineau is a separate city across the Ottawa River in Quebec, so give the full address of your stay, including the city, when you book.
Winter weather. Ottawa winters are very cold and snowy; dress for the cold before you step outside.
