Salzburg Airport W. A. Mozart (SZG) lies on the western edge of Salzburg, close to the border with Bavaria, Germany. Terminal 1 handles regular flights, and the smaller Terminal 2 opens for seasonal peaks, mainly charter flights on winter Saturdays. There are no jet bridges, so you walk or take a bus from the aircraft.
If you fly in from outside the Schengen Area, for example from the UK, you pass passport control before baggage claim; flights from Schengen countries skip it. Baggage claim is quick at this small airport, though ski bags and oversized items can take longer on busy winter Saturdays. After customs, you exit into the arrivals area.
Salzburg is on Central European Time (UTC+1) and moves to UTC+2 from late March to late October.
Requisitos de entrada y notas locales
Entry rules. Austria is in the Schengen Area. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you travel.
Winter Saturdays. Saturdays in ski season are the airport's busiest days, with extra charter flights using Terminal 2 and longer waits for ski luggage. Check which terminal your flight uses before you fly home.
Snow in the Alps. Winters bring snow and freezing temperatures to Salzburg and the mountain resorts, so keep warm layers and boots handy for the walk to the car and the arrival at your chalet.
Close to Germany. The airport sits beside the Bavarian border, and Bad Reichenhall is on the German side. Austria and Germany both use the euro.
