Oaxaca International Airport (Xoxocotlán, OAX) sits in the southern suburb of Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán, about 12 km from the city center. All flights use one single-storey terminal; passengers walk to and from the aircraft along open-air walkways, and arrivals are at the southern end of the building.
International passengers clear immigration, collect their bags and pass customs before reaching the arrivals hall, which has taxi stands and car-rental desks.
Oaxaca sits at about 1,500 metres, so evenings are cooler than on the coast. The city runs on Central Standard Time (UTC−6) all year.
Entry requirements and local notes
Historic center streets. Many hotels and rentals in the center and Jalatlaco are on narrow one-way streets, and some are pedestrian. Give the exact address and cross streets so the driver gets as close as possible.
Festival dates. The Guelaguetza in July and Day of the Dead around November 1 bring heavy traffic and road closures; book early and allow extra time.
Valley trips. For Teotitlán, Mitla or Hierve el Agua, give the property name and village when you book.
Entry. International visitors need a valid passport. Carry some pesos for tips and small purchases.
