Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is on Sea Island in Richmond, south of downtown Vancouver. Most flights use the main terminal, which has separate domestic, international and US (transborder) areas; a small South Terminal on Sea Island serves regional airlines and floatplane connections.
If you arrive from outside Canada, you clear Canadian border services first, using the primary inspection kiosks or Advance Declaration in the ArriveCAN app, then a border officer. International and US arrivals then exit through the customs hall into the arrivals level; domestic arrivals go straight from baggage claim to arrivals, where pre-booked drivers meet passengers.

eTA or visa. Most visitors from visa-exempt countries need an approved Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before flying to Canada; US citizens do not. Travelers from other countries may need a visa, so check the Government of Canada's requirements for your passport before you book.
Domestic, US or international arrival. Arrivals reach the hall by different routes, so tell us which kind of flight you are on when you book.
Cruise embarkation days. Alaska cruises leave from Canada Place downtown. Allow time between landing and boarding on embarkation days.
Rain and mountain snow. It rains often in Vancouver from autumn to spring, and in winter snow can affect the Sea-to-Sky Highway to Whistler, so allow extra time.
US preclearance on the way home. Flights to the United States clear US immigration and customs at YVR before boarding, so allow for it when you book your ride back to the airport.
