Viru Viru International Airport (VVI) is north of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, toward Warnes. It is Bolivia's main international gateway and the hub of Boliviana de Aviación (BoA), and passengers use one terminal with separate domestic and international areas.
International arrivals pass immigration and then customs. After collecting your bags you walk out to the arrivals hall, where car rental counters, ATMs and exchange desks are located and pre-booked drivers wait.

Visa rules. Bolivia removed the tourist visa requirement for US citizens in December 2025 (Supreme Decree 5497), but some nationalities still need a visa, so check with a Bolivian consulate before you fly.
Low altitude. Unlike La Paz, Santa Cruz sits at low altitude in the tropical lowlands, so heat and humidity are the main adjustment on arrival.
Gated communities. Many homes in Urubó and other districts are inside gated condominiums. Give the condominium name, the lot or house number and any gate instructions when you book.
Boliviano currency. Bolivia uses the boliviano (BOB), and ATMs and exchange desks are in the terminal.
