About Queen Beatrix International Airport

Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) is Aruba's only commercial airport, on the southwest coast at the edge of Oranjestad, the island's capital.

Most visitors arrive on nonstop flights from the United States, with American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, United and Sun Country flying from cities such as New York, Miami, Charlotte, Atlanta, Boston and Houston. Air Canada, WestJet and Porter fly in from Canada, KLM and TUI connect Aruba with Amsterdam, and Copa, Avianca, LATAM and Wingo link it to Panama, Colombia, Peru and the rest of Latin America. Regional carriers hop to Curaçao, Bonaire and the Dominican Republic.

The airport has one runway and a passenger terminal, plus a U.S. Check-In Terminal that opened in April 2025 for flights to the United States, which clear U.S. immigration and customs here before departure.

The resort areas are close. Downtown Oranjestad is about 10 minutes away by car, the low-rise resorts of Eagle Beach about 15 minutes, and the high-rise hotels of Palm Beach about 20 minutes, with the villas of Noord just inland. Savaneta and the fishing villages of the south coast lie in the other direction, southeast of the runway.

Arrival tips for Queen Beatrix International Airport

Before you fly, complete your ED card at the official portal edcardaruba.aw and keep its QR code handy: border control scans it when you land.

After leaving the plane, follow the signs to immigration, then collect your bags in the baggage hall, where free luggage carts are available, and pass through customs. Lines usually move quickly, but they can build up when several flights arrive close together, which is common on weekends.

Once through customs you walk straight out to the front of the terminal. The official taxi queue is right outside arrivals, the Arubus stop is across the road, and the car rental counters are just past the taxi area. If you have booked a private transfer, your driver waits in the arrivals area outside with a sign bearing your name.

There is no Uber or other ride-hailing in Aruba, so decide how you are getting to your hotel before you land.

Ground transportation

Most visitors take a taxi or a pre-booked private transfer; the resorts are 10 to 20 minutes away.

  • Private transfer from Aruba airport

A driver meets you outside arrivals and takes your party straight to your hotel or villa. Booked and paid in advance, so there is no queue and no cash needed on arrival.

  • Taxi from Aruba airport

The official taxi queue is right outside arrivals. Taxis have no meters: fares are fixed by zone and quoted before you get in, with surcharges at night, on Sundays and on holidays, and not every driver accepts cards.

  • Arubus public bus

The stop is across the road from arrivals. Buses run to the central station in Oranjestad, where you change for Eagle Beach and Palm Beach; service is thin late at night and space for luggage is limited.

  • Car rental

Rental counters are just past the taxi area outside the terminal. A car is useful for exploring the island, though most resorts are an easy taxi ride away.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Aruba airport from Palm Beach?

Palm Beach is about 10–11 km from Queen Beatrix International Airport, around 20 minutes by car. The road runs north along the west coast past Oranjestad and Eagle Beach, so traffic through town is the main thing that can stretch the trip.

How far is Aruba airport from Eagle Beach?

Eagle Beach is about 7–8 km from the airport, roughly 15 minutes by car. It sits between Oranjestad and Palm Beach on the west coast, and most of its low-rise resorts and timeshares are right on the main beach road.

How far is Aruba airport from Oranjestad?

Downtown Oranjestad is about 5–6 km from the airport, around 10 minutes by car. The airport sits on the edge of the capital, so the cruise terminal, marina and downtown hotels are the closest stops from the terminal.

Do I need an ED card to fly to Aruba?

Yes. Every traveler entering Aruba, children and infants included, needs an ED card from the official free portal edcardaruba.aw, completed no more than 7 days before arrival. Airlines check the QR code before boarding and border control scans it when you land.

Is there U.S. customs preclearance at Aruba airport?

Yes. Passengers flying to the United States clear U.S. immigration and customs at Queen Beatrix International before boarding, using the U.S. Check-In Terminal that opened in 2025. You land in the U.S. as a domestic arrival, but plan on reaching the airport about three hours before departure.

Can I use Uber at Aruba airport?
