Sobre Addis Ababa Bole International Airport

Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) is the main international airport of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. It is the hub of Ethiopian Airlines, which links Addis Ababa with cities across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North and South America, and many passengers pass through it on connecting itineraries. Other airlines fly in from the Gulf, Turkey, North and East Africa and China, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Saudia, flydubai and Kenya Airways.

The airport has two passenger terminals next to each other: Terminal 2 handles international flights and Terminal 1 handles domestic flights to places such as Lalibela, Gondar, Bahir Dar and Dire Dawa.

Bole sits in the Bole district, about 6 km southeast of central Addis Ababa, at an elevation of about 2,334 m. The drive into the city usually takes 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.

From the airport, travelers head to the hotels along Bole Road, Meskel Square, Kazanchis and Piassa in the city center, up to the Entoto hills on the northern edge of the city, or south to the lakes around Bishoftu.

Consejos de llegada a Addis Ababa Bole International Airport

After you leave the aircraft, follow the signs to immigration if Addis Ababa is your final stop; if you are connecting to another flight, follow the transfer signs instead and stay airside, where you do not need an Ethiopian visa. International flights arrive at Terminal 2 and domestic flights at Terminal 1. Travelers with an e-visa should have the approval printed or on their phone, and your passport should be valid for at least six months; some nationalities can buy a visa on arrival at the airport.

Collect your bags in baggage claim, then pass through customs into the Arrivals Hall. An Ethio Telecom counter sells local SIM cards, and you will find an ATM, a currency exchange counter and a tourist information desk there. Free Wi-Fi is available but asks for a mobile number to register.

Outside, metered yellow taxis and private blue-and-white taxis wait at the terminal, and Ride and Feres drivers pick up at the app pickup area. Agree the price before you get into a taxi without a meter, or use a pre-arranged pickup.

Ethiopia is on East Africa Time (UTC+3) all year, and the currency is the Ethiopian birr (ETB).
