Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) is the main airport for Mumbai, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It handled about 55.5 million passengers in 2025, around 39 million of them on domestic flights.
Air India has a hub here, and IndiGo, Akasa Air and SpiceJet fly to cities across India, with Delhi, Bengaluru and Goa among the busiest routes. International flights reach Dubai, London, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Singapore, Bangkok, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam and New York.
The airport has two terminals on opposite sides of the airfield. Terminal 1 in Santacruz handles domestic flights, and Terminal 2 in Sahar handles all international flights plus many domestic ones. A phased rebuild of part of Terminal 1 is planned from January 2027, and some flights are moving to Terminal 2 or to the new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI), a separate airport about 35 km away.
The airport sits in the northern suburbs, about 22 km north of downtown Mumbai, between Vile Parle, Santacruz and Andheri. From here, travelers head to Bandra, the Bandra Kurla Complex, Juhu, Andheri, South Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune and Lonavala.

International flights arrive at Terminal 2. Foreign nationals must submit India's online e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing, and travelers on an e-Visa have their fingerprints and photo taken at the immigration counter, so expect queues at busy times.
After immigration, collect your bags in the baggage hall and pass through customs into the arrivals area. Domestic arrivals at Terminal 1 go straight to the baggage belts and out to the forecourt.
At Terminal 2, follow the signs to the ground transportation hub on Level 1, where you find the taxi and Uber and Ola pickup areas, the multi-level car park and bus gates. Prepaid taxis are booked at the official counter. Pre-booked drivers wait in the arrivals area outside the exit. Do not accept offers from people approaching you outside the arrivals hall.

Prepaid taxis and app-based cabs suit most travelers with luggage, while Metro Line 3 is the way to skip road traffic to the Bandra Kurla Complex and South Mumbai.
Underground stations serve both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and the line runs south through the Bandra Kurla Complex to South Mumbai and Cuffe Parade in about 35 to 45 minutes. Trains run from about 5:30 am to 11 pm, and the stations involve some walking with bags.
Book a prepaid taxi at the official counter in arrivals, with pickup from the Level 1 transport hub at Terminal 2. Road trips to South Mumbai can take 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic.
Uber and Ola pick up from marked areas, at Terminal 2 on Level 1 of the ground transportation hub. They face the same road traffic as taxis, and waits grow at peak times.
A pre-booked driver meets you in arrivals and takes you to your hotel in Mumbai or onward to Navi Mumbai, Pune or Lonavala. It needs booking ahead.
BEST runs air-conditioned buses from the airport into the city, the lowest-cost option. They are slow in traffic and awkward with large luggage.
