M. R. Štefánik Airport (BTS) is the main international airport of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It is named after General Milan Rastislav Štefánik and handled a record 2.44 million passengers in 2025.
Ryanair was the largest airline in 2025, followed by Smartwings, Wizz Air and Pegasus Airlines. Ryanair flies to cities such as London, Dublin, Barcelona, Milan and Rome, and Wizz Air opened a base here in November 2025 with routes across Europe, the Balkans, Israel and the Caucasus. Pegasus Airlines links the airport with Istanbul, and summer flights and charters serve resorts in Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria and Egypt.
All passenger flights use one terminal for arrivals and departures, opened in 2012, with separate Schengen and non-Schengen gates.
The airport lies about 9 km (5.5 miles) northeast of Bratislava city center, next to the D1 motorway bypass; the drive takes about 15 minutes without traffic, and city bus 61 runs to the main railway station. Intercity buses from the arrivals area also serve Vienna International Airport, about 50 km away, and Győr in Hungary. From here, travelers head to Bratislava's Old Town, Vienna and Győr.

If you arrive from outside the Schengen Area, you pass passport control before baggage claim; flights from Schengen countries skip this step. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation.
The terminal is compact, so the walk from the gate to baggage claim and customs is short, and you come out into the arrivals hall.
The taxi rank of the airport's partner service, AIRPORT SERVICE, is in front of the arrivals terminal, with fares shown on information panels. Bolt cars use marked spaces in car park P1, and a Bolt kiosk in the arrivals hall lets you order without the app. Check that the car's licence plate matches your booking before you get in. Pre-booked drivers usually wait in the arrivals hall with a name sign. City bus 61 stops on the access road in front of departures, and intercity buses to Vienna and Győr stop in front of arrivals.
Bratislava is on Central European Time and moves to summer time from late March to late October. Slovakia uses the euro.
A taxi or Bolt is quickest for central Bratislava, while bus 61 suits travelers heading to the main railway station.

City bus 61 links the airport with Bratislava's main railway station, with night bus N61 after hours. It takes about 30 minutes to the center; buy tickets in the Bratislava public transport apps or at the machines by the stop.
FlixBus and Slovak Lines buses stop in front of arrivals on routes to Vienna International Airport and central Vienna, and tickets can be bought from the driver. Timetables are limited, so check them before you travel.
A pre-booked driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to your address in Bratislava, Vienna or elsewhere. It has to be booked in advance but avoids changes with luggage.
