Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO) is the main international airport serving Rome, Italy. It sits near the coast in the town of Fiumicino, about 30 km (19 miles) from central Rome, and is operated by Aeroporti di Roma.
ITA Airways uses Fiumicino as its hub, with flights across Italy and Europe and long-haul routes to North and South America, Africa and Asia. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines fly to the United States, Air Canada to Montreal and Toronto, and Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways and Saudia connect Rome with the Gulf. Low-cost airlines such as easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air and Vueling serve many European cities.
Two passenger terminals are in use. Terminal 1 handles domestic and Schengen flights, while Terminal 3, the largest, handles domestic, Schengen and non-Schengen flights, including most long-haul services. Terminal 2 closed in 2017. The airport has its own railway station, linked non-stop to Roma Termini and by regional trains to other city stations.
From the airport, most travelers head into central Rome and Vatican City. Others continue to the cruise port of Civitavecchia, about 60 km up the coast, or board high-speed trains from the airport station toward Florence, Venice and Naples.

If you arrive from outside the Schengen area, you go through passport control first. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation.
After passport control, collect your bags in the baggage hall of your arrival terminal and pass through customs into the public arrivals hall. Terminals 1 and 3 sit side by side, so check which one you landed in before meeting anyone.
Outside arrivals, official taxi stands are in front of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Use only white licensed taxis with a TAXI sign on the roof, and decline offers from people who approach you inside the terminal. Pre-booked drivers usually wait in the arrivals hall holding a name sign. The railway station for the Leonardo Express and regional trains is reached on foot from the terminals, across from Terminal 1.
Rome has hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. The local time is Central European Time, and the currency is the euro.

Regional trains run about every 15 minutes and stop at Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana and Tiburtina, where you can change to metro, tram or bus. It does not stop at Termini.
White licensed taxis wait at stands outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 arrivals. A fixed fare applies to destinations inside the Aurelian Walls of the historic center, and other trips are metered.
Several companies, including COTRAL and Terravision, run buses from the airport to Termini and other city stops. They are slower than the train, especially in traffic.
Uber operates at Fiumicino with Uber Black and Van, and you can also request a licensed Rome taxi through the app. The pickup point is shown in the app after you request a ride.
A pre-booked driver meets you in arrivals and takes you directly to your hotel or to the Civitavecchia cruise port, a drive of under an hour. It needs to be arranged before you land.
