Rovaniemi Airport (RVN) serves Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland in northern Finland. Finavia operates the airport, and it handled about 1.12 million passengers in 2025.
Finnair and Norwegian fly year-round to Helsinki, and Ryanair links the city with Milan–Bergamo. Most other flights are winter routes timed for the Christmas and snow season: easyJet, Ryanair, TUI Airways and Jet2.com fly from many UK airports, and Lufthansa, Eurowings, KLM, Air France, Austrian Airlines, Edelweiss Air, Iberia, Vueling, Turkish Airlines and others add seasonal links from mainland Europe and Istanbul.
Everything runs through one terminal with check-in, a departures hall expanded in 2025, and jet bridges, which are rare at Finnish airports. The airport lies about 10 km north of Rovaniemi city center and about 2–3 km from Santa Claus Village and Santa Park.
From the airport, most travelers head to Rovaniemi city center, Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle, Santa Park, the Pyhä-Luosto fells, and other Lapland ski and wilderness areas.

Flights from Helsinki and other Schengen airports arrive as domestic-style flights with no passport check. If you fly in from the UK, Turkey, Israel or another non-Schengen country, you go through passport control in the terminal. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation.
Baggage claim is a short walk from the gate, and winter flights bring a lot of skis, strollers and bulky bags, so allow a little extra time at the belt when several flights land together.
Outside the exit, taxis wait at the airport, and the Airport Express bus runs via Santa Claus Village to hotels in the city center and the railway station. A separate bus goes from the airport to Pyhä-Luosto. Pre-booked drivers and tour company staff usually wait in the arrivals hall.
Rovaniemi is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2, UTC+3 in summer), Finland uses the euro, and winters are cold and snowy, so keep warm layers in your hand luggage.
The Airport Express bus suits most travelers headed to central hotels or Santa Claus Village, while a taxi is simplest with luggage or outside the winter season.
Taxis wait at the airport exit, and local firms such as Menevä, Taksi Rovaniemi and Lähitaksi also take phone or app bookings. The city center is about 10 km away; queues can build when several winter flights land at once.
The airport bus runs between the airport, Santa Claus Village, the railway station and several city center hotels, with tickets paid on board by card. Timetables are published on airportbus.fi; service is reduced outside winter.
A direct bus runs from the airport to the Pyhä-Luosto fells, four times a day in winter and twice a day in summer. Check the timetable on Pyhä's website before you travel.
Uber has operated in Rovaniemi since December 2023. Fewer cars are available than in larger cities, so a taxi is often quicker at busy times.
A pre-booked driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to your hotel, cabin or tour base. It suits families and groups with winter gear but needs your flight details in advance.
Avis, Sixt, Hertz, Europcar and Green Motion serve the airport. Roads are snowy and icy for much of the winter, so drive with care.

Rovaniemi Airport is about 10 km north of Rovaniemi city center. Taxis wait at the terminal exit, and the Airport Express bus links the airport with the railway station and several central hotels. The airport sits on the same side of town as Santa Claus Village, so many visitors pass the village on the way into the city.
Santa Claus Village and Santa Park are only about 2–3 km from Rovaniemi Airport. The Airport Express bus stops at Santa Claus Village on its way to the city center, and a taxi covers the distance in a short drive. Some hotels near Santa Park also run their own shuttles.
The airport sits right beside the Arctic Circle, a few kilometres from Santa Claus Village, where the Arctic Circle line is marked for visitors. Rovaniemi city center lies about 10 km to the south. Most visitors cross the line when they visit the village rather than at the airport itself, which is a short taxi or bus ride away.
Rovaniemi Airport has one terminal that handles all domestic and international flights. The departures hall was expanded in 2025 to cope with the winter peak, and the airport is one of only three in Finland with jet bridges. Arrivals from outside the Schengen Area go through passport control inside the same building before reaching baggage claim.

Yes. Taxis wait at the airport exit, and local companies such as Menevä, Taksi Rovaniemi and Lähitaksi also take phone or app bookings. The ride to the city center covers about 10 km. During the Christmas season several large flights can land close together, so expect short queues at the rank and consider booking ahead for larger groups.
Yes. The Airport Express bus runs from the airport via Santa Claus Village to the railway station and several city center hotels, with tickets paid to the driver by card. Timetables are on airportbus.fi. Outside the winter season service can be limited, and the local tourist office notes that a taxi may then be the only option.
Uber has operated in Rovaniemi since December 2023, so you can request a ride from the airport. The number of cars is small compared with larger cities, and waits can be longer when winter flights arrive together. Local taxi companies such as Menevä also offer app booking and often have cars waiting at the terminal.

Rovaniemi is on Eastern European Time, UTC+2, and moves to UTC+3 for daylight saving time in summer. Finland uses the euro, and card payments are accepted almost everywhere, including on the airport bus. Winters are long, cold and snowy, so pack warm clothing and keep it handy for the walk from the terminal.
Rovaniemi Airport handled about 1.12 million passengers in 2025, up from about 948,000 in 2024. The airport is operated by Finavia, the Finnish airport company. Traffic peaks around Christmas, when seasonal flights from across Europe bring visitors to Santa Claus Village and Lapland, and is much quieter in summer.
