Rovaniemi Airport is the airport of Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland, operated by Finavia. It sits north of the city, close to Santa Claus Village and the Arctic Circle.
All flights use one terminal, which has jet bridges and a departures hall expanded in 2025. Flights from Helsinki and other Schengen airports arrive with no passport check; flights from the UK, Turkey, Israel and other non-Schengen countries go through passport control inside the terminal before baggage claim.
Winter flights bring many skis, strollers and bulky bags, so allow a little extra time at the belt when several flights land together. Rovaniemi is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2, UTC+3 in summer).
Schengen entry: Finland is in the Schengen Area, so only flights from outside it pass passport control. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation.
Winter cold: Temperatures in Lapland are often well below freezing, so have a warm coat, hat and gloves in your hand luggage before you walk out to the vehicle.
Cabin and igloo addresses: Many cabins, glass igloo resorts and wilderness lodges sit on snowy access roads outside town. Give the exact address, the property name and any gate or reception details when you book.
Christmas peak: December brings many seasonal flights landing close together, so book your transfer well ahead of a Christmas trip.
