Terminal 1
Domestic terminal, used by VietJet Air for its domestic flights, which check in at Hall A. It is joined to Terminal 2 by a covered walkway.
También conocido como: SGN Airport, Ho Chi Minh Airport, Ho Chi Minh City Airport, Saigon Airport, Tan Son Nhat Airport, HCMC Airport.
SGN · VVTS · Ho Chi Minh City
Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) is the main airport for Ho Chi Minh City, the city many travelers still call Saigon, in southern Vietnam. Its code comes from that older name.
Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air fly the most routes, linking the city with Hanoi, Da Nang, Phu Quoc and other Vietnamese cities, and with Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, Sydney and Europe. Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines and Sun PhuQuoc Airways add domestic flights, while Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, Thai Airways, Emirates, EVA Air, Japan Airlines, Turkish Airlines and others serve Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
The airport has three terminals. Terminal 2 handles all international flights, Terminal 1 handles VietJet Air's domestic flights, and Terminal 3, opened in 2025, handles domestic flights for Vietnam Airlines and several other carriers.
The airport sits inside the city, about 7 km (4 miles) north of District 1. The drive to Ben Thanh Market and the riverside center usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, and 45 minutes or more at rush hour. Travelers also head to District 3, Cholon, Thao Dien and Phu My Hung, or on to Vung Tau and the Mekong Delta.

Two parallel runways, 3,050 m and 3,828 m
Three: Terminal 1 (domestic), Terminal 2 (international) and Terminal 3 (domestic, opened 2025)
If you arrive on an international flight, you land at Terminal 2. Have your passport and your approved e-visa or visa exemption ready for immigration, where most nationalities need an e-visa issued before travel. After passport control, collect your bags at baggage claim on the ground floor and walk through customs into the arrivals hall.
Domestic flights arrive at Terminal 1 (VietJet Air) or Terminal 3 (Vietnam Airlines and several other carriers), with no immigration or customs: collect your bags and walk out.
In the Terminal 2 arrivals hall you find currency exchange counters, ATMs and SIM card counters from Viettel, Mobifone and Vinaphone; a passport is needed to buy a SIM.
Outside, metered taxis line up at the official taxi stands, ride-hailing apps have marked pickup zones on the ground floor of Terminals 1 and 2, and city buses leave from the stops in front of the terminals. Ignore drivers who approach you inside the terminal. At Terminal 3, private cars pick up on Level 2, and taxis, buses and ride-hailing cars on Level 1.
Vietnam is on Indochina Time (UTC+7) all year and uses the Vietnamese dong.
A taxi, ride-hailing car or pre-booked car is the easiest way into the city with luggage; buses are cheap but slow.
Metered taxis, including Mai Linh and Vinasun, wait at the taxi stands outside Terminals 1 and 2 and at Level 1 of Terminal 3. The ride to District 1 usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, longer at rush hour.
Grab, Be and Xanh SM pick up at marked zones on the ground floor of Terminals 1 and 2 and at Level 1 of Terminal 3. Lines for cars can be long at peak times.
City bus 109 runs from the terminals to Ben Thanh in District 1 about every 20 minutes, taking 45 to 60 minutes. It charges extra for luggage and suits travelers with small bags.
City bus 152 also serves the airport but takes a longer, indirect route through the city.
A pre-booked car meets you at the arrivals exit, useful for families, groups, late arrivals and trips beyond the city center.

Domestic terminal, used by VietJet Air for its domestic flights, which check in at Hall A. It is joined to Terminal 2 by a covered walkway.
The international terminal, used by every airline for international arrivals and departures.
Domestic terminal opened in 2025, used by Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, VASCO, Bamboo Airways and Vietravel Airlines for domestic flights. It stands apart from Terminals 1 and 2 and is linked to them by a free shuttle bus.
Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, Vietravel Airlines and Sun PhuQuoc Airways use Terminal 2 for international flights and a domestic terminal for flights within Vietnam: Terminal 3 for Vietnam Airlines and Vietravel Airlines, Terminal 1 for VietJet Air.

Tan Son Nhat Airport is about 7 km (4 miles) north of District 1, inside the city. The drive to Ben Thanh Market and the riverside center usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, and 45 minutes or more in the morning and evening rush hours. City bus 109 makes the same trip in 45 to 60 minutes.
Yes. Saigon is the older name of Ho Chi Minh City, and the airport's code, SGN, comes from it, so travelers call Tan Son Nhat International Airport Saigon airport, Ho Chi Minh airport or SGN. It is the city's only airport with commercial flights, so a flight to Ho Chi Minh City lands here.
Tan Son Nhat has three terminals. Terminal 2 handles all international flights. Terminal 1 handles VietJet Air's domestic flights, and Terminal 3, opened in 2025, handles domestic flights for Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASCO. Terminals 1 and 2 are side by side; Terminal 3 stands apart and is linked by a free shuttle bus.
Vietnam Airlines uses Terminal 3 for all its domestic flights and Terminal 2 for international flights. If you connect from an international flight to a domestic one, allow time to move from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 on the free shuttle bus, which runs between all three terminals from early morning until after midnight.
VietJet Air's domestic flights use Terminal 1, with check-in at Hall A since January 2026, and its international flights use Terminal 2. The two terminals stand side by side and are joined by a covered walkway, so moving between them on foot takes only a few minutes.
Take the free shuttle bus that links all three terminals. It runs from 04:30 to 00:30, about every 15 minutes, and Terminal 3 stands apart from Terminals 1 and 2, so it is not a short walk with luggage. Shuttles can be busy at peak times, so leave a margin when connecting between flights.
Most travelers need an e-visa, which every nationality can get online from Vietnam's official portal for stays of up to 90 days. Citizens of the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea and the Nordic countries can stay up to 45 days visa-free, and most Southeast Asian nationalities have their own exemptions. Check the rules for your passport before you fly.
Yes. City bus 109 runs from the terminals to Ben Thanh in District 1 about every 20 minutes and takes 45 to 60 minutes, with a charge for luggage. Bus 152 also serves the airport but takes a longer route. The buses suit travelers with small bags; with suitcases, a taxi or car is easier.
Metered taxis, including Mai Linh and Vinasun, wait at the taxi stands outside Terminals 1 and 2, and ride-hailing apps such as Grab, Be and Xanh SM pick up at marked zones on the ground floor. At Terminal 3, taxis and ride-hailing cars use Level 1. Ignore drivers who approach you inside the terminal.
Yes. Viettel, Mobifone and Vinaphone sell SIM cards at counters near the arrivals exits of Terminals 1 and 2, and you need your passport to buy one. Currency exchange counters and ATMs are in the arrivals halls. Rates are usually better in the city, so change only what you need for the first day.
Yes. The international Terminal 2 has several lounges, including the Rose Business Lounge, Orchid Lounge, Apricot Business Lounge, Jasmine Halal Lounge and Vietnam Airlines' Lotus Lounge, open to eligible premium passengers and, at most of them, to paying guests. Vietnam Airlines also has a Lotus Lounge in the domestic departures area of Terminal 3.
Tan Son Nhat has two main parking garages. A multi-story garage opposite the domestic Terminal 1 serves Terminals 1 and 2, a short walk away, and a separate parking building with two basement levels serves Terminal 3 and connects to it by pedestrian bridges. Check the terminal for your flight before you drive, since Terminal 3 stands apart.
Ho Chi Minh City and all of Vietnam are on Indochina Time, UTC+7, all year, with no daylight saving time. That makes Vietnam the same time as Bangkok and Jakarta and one hour behind Singapore, Hong Kong and Taipei. Set your watch on landing so your onward plans line up with local time.
