Skopje International Airport (SKP) is the main airport of Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, and the larger of the country's two international airports. It is in the municipality of Petrovec, southeast of the city.
Wizz Air has a base here and flies to dozens of cities across Europe, including London Luton, Berlin, Budapest, Milan-Bergamo and Rome. Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines and AJet connect Skopje with Istanbul, while Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Aegean Airlines, Air Serbia, Croatia Airlines and Edelweiss Air link it with Vienna, Warsaw, Athens, Belgrade, Zagreb and Zurich. SunExpress and Freebird Airlines add flights to Antalya and İzmir, and easyJet flies to Geneva.
The airport has a single passenger terminal, opened in September 2011 together with a runway extension, new cargo buildings and car parks. Its one runway is 3,042 m long. It sits about 22 km southeast of Skopje city center, around 25 minutes by car.
From here, most travelers head into Skopje or drive southwest to Ohrid and its lake, about 200 km away.

North Macedonia is not part of the EU or the Schengen area, so the EU Entry/Exit System does not apply here; you go through North Macedonian passport control, where EU and Schengen citizens can show a national ID card and other travelers should check visa rules with the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
After passport control, collect your bags in the baggage hall and pass through customs into the arrivals hall. The terminal is compact, and car rental desks for the airport's 22 rental agencies are close by.
Taxis wait at the terminal exit around the clock. Airport Taxi, with white cars numbered 1 to 65, is the only company authorized to pick up passengers here, and its regulated fares are posted at the exit. The shuttle bus to Skopje runs on a timetable set around flight arrivals. If you have a pre-booked driver, look for your name sign in the arrivals hall.
North Macedonia uses Central European Time (UTC+1, UTC+2 in summer) and the Macedonian denar. Summers are hot and dry, and winters can be cold.
The authorized airport taxi or a pre-booked transfer suits most travelers, while the shuttle bus works for daytime arrivals heading into central Skopje.
Airport Taxi is the only company authorized to carry passengers from the airport, and its white cars wait at the terminal exit 24 hours a day. Fares follow a regulated list posted at the exit and inside each car.
An airport shuttle bus runs to key stops in Skopje on a timetable set around flight arrivals, taking about 30 to 40 minutes to the center. It runs only from 08:00 to 20:00, so it may not suit very early or late flights.
A pre-booked driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you directly to your address. This is the most practical choice for the roughly 200 km drive to Ohrid.
There are 22 rental agencies at the airport. A car is useful for trips to Ohrid and other parts of the country, but you will need to pay attention to mountain roads.

Skopje International Airport is about 22 km southeast of Skopje city center, in the municipality of Petrovec. The drive takes around 25 minutes by taxi or car in normal traffic. The airport shuttle bus takes about 30 to 40 minutes to reach the center, as it stops at several bus stops around the city along the way.
Not quite. The airport is in Petrovec, a separate municipality southeast of the capital, about 22 km from the city center. It is sometimes called Petrovec Airport for this reason. It is still the main airport for Skopje and the larger of North Macedonia's two international airports, the other being in Ohrid in the southwest of the country.
Skopje International Airport has one passenger terminal, which handles all scheduled flights. The building opened in September 2011 as part of a project that also extended the runway and added new cargo and administrative buildings, a new access road and car parks. Because there is only one terminal, there is no need to transfer between buildings.
Wizz Air has a base at Skopje and flies to many European cities, including London Luton, Berlin, Milan-Bergamo and Rome. Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines and AJet serve Istanbul, while Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Aegean Airlines, Air Serbia, Croatia Airlines and Edelweiss Air fly to Vienna, Warsaw, Athens, Belgrade, Zagreb and Zurich. All use the single terminal.
Yes. Taxis wait at the exit of the terminal 24 hours a day, so no reservation is needed. Airport Taxi, whose white cars are numbered 1 to 65, is the only company authorized by the airport operator to carry passengers from the airport. Fares follow a regulated price list posted at the airport exit and inside each car.
Yes. An airport shuttle bus runs between the airport and Skopje, stopping at key bus stops in the city, with a timetable built around flight arrivals and departures. The ride to the center takes about 30 to 40 minutes. The service runs from 08:00 to 20:00, so it may not cover very early or late flights.
The airport does not list Uber or other ride-hailing apps among its transport options. Airport Taxi is the only company authorized to pick up passengers at the terminal, with cars waiting at the exit around the clock. For other options, you can use the airport shuttle bus during the day, rent a car, or arrange a driver in advance.
It depends on your nationality. Citizens of EU and Schengen countries do not need a visa and can enter with a valid national ID card. North Macedonia is not in the EU or Schengen area, so the EU Entry/Exit System does not apply. Other travelers should check current visa rules with North Macedonia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs before flying.
Ohrid is about 200 km southwest of Skopje airport, a drive of roughly two and a half to three hours on mountain roads with no border crossing. A rental car, taxi or pre-booked transfer goes directly. By public transport, you would first travel into Skopje and then take an intercity bus from the city's bus station.
North Macedonia uses Central European Time, UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 during summer daylight saving time. The currency is the Macedonian denar (MKD), so it helps to have some local cash for small purchases and buses. Skopje has hot, dry summers and cold winters, so pack for the season you are traveling in.
Skopje International Airport is operated by TAV Airports under a 20-year concession signed in 2008. It handled about 3.2 million passengers in 2025, up from about 2.95 million in 2024. The airport has a single runway, 16/34, which is 3,042 m long, and serves as a base for Wizz Air.
From 2006 to 2018 the airport was named Skopje Alexander the Great Airport. It was renamed Skopje International Airport in February 2018. Travelers also refer to it as Skopje Airport or Petrovec Airport, after the municipality where it is located about 22 km southeast of the city center.
