Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport (HAM) lies inside the city limits, in the northern district of Fuhlsbüttel. It has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, joined by the Airport Plaza, which holds the central security checkpoint, shops and the S-Bahn station. Arrivals are on level 0 and departures on level 1 in both buildings.
If you arrive from outside the Schengen Area, you pass passport control first; flights from other Schengen countries skip it. Baggage claim is on level 0, with 12 belts, and after collecting your bags you go through customs into the arrival hall of your terminal, where pre-booked drivers wait.
Hamburg is on Central European Time (UTC+1) and moves to UTC+2 from late March to late October.
Requisitos de entrada y notas locales
Entry rules. Germany is in the Schengen Area. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you travel.
Check your terminal. Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners mainly use Terminal 2, while SkyTeam and Oneworld airlines, Eurowings, Condor and Marabu mainly use Terminal 1. Assignments can change, so check your booking.
Rain gear. Hamburg's climate is mild and often wet in every season, so keep a rain jacket handy.
Offers inside the terminal. Decline rides from people who approach you inside and look for the driver holding your name sign.
