Keflavík International Airport (KEF) handles nearly all of Iceland's international flights. It sits on the Reykjanes Peninsula, next to the town of Keflavík and southwest of Reykjavík, and is run by state-owned Isavia. Everything runs from one terminal, known as Leifsstöð, with a Schengen area and a separate non-Schengen gate area for flights to the UK and North America.
Iceland is in the Schengen Area but not the EU, so you only pass passport control if you arrive from outside Schengen. Collect your bags in the baggage hall, walk through customs and you come out in the arrivals hall, where pre-booked drivers wait.
Iceland stays on UTC+0 all year and does not change its clocks for daylight saving time.
Entry rules. Iceland is in the Schengen Area but not the EU. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Some nationalities need a Schengen visa, so check the rules for your passport before you travel.
The airport is not in Reykjavík. Nearly all international flights land at Keflavík, on the Reykjanes Peninsula, not at Reykjavík's small city airport, so every trip into the capital is a road transfer. Your booking starts at Keflavík.
No Uber in Iceland. Uber and Lyft do not operate in Iceland, and taxis can be scarce when several flights land at night. A pre-booked driver is waiting whatever time you arrive.
Fast-changing weather. Snow, ice and strong wind can slow the road from the airport in winter, and the weather changes quickly in every season. Keep warm, waterproof layers in your hand luggage.

Keflavík International Airport is about 50 km southwest of Reykjavík. The drive on Route 41 takes about 45 minutes in normal conditions, and snow, ice or strong wind can slow it in winter.
