Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is the airport for Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, in the United Kingdom. It sits at Ingliston, about 9 km (6 miles) west of the city center, just off the M8 and M9 motorways, and handled almost 17 million passengers in 2025.
easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2.com run the largest networks, with flights across Europe and to leisure destinations in Spain and the Canary Islands. British Airways links London Heathrow and London City, and Loganair flies to Orkney, Shetland, Stornoway and other domestic points. Long-haul routes include Emirates to Dubai, Qatar Airways to Doha, Turkish Airlines to Istanbul, and United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Air Canada and WestJet to North America.
All flights use a single terminal, with the tram stop and bus stops on the plaza outside.
From the airport, travelers head to Edinburgh's Old Town and New Town, Leith and Newhaven, Glasgow, Stirling, Fife and St Andrews, Dundee, and the Highlands via Inverness and Fort William.

International arrivals pass through UK border control; the UK is not part of the Schengen Area, and most visa-exempt visitors, including EU nationals, need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) approved before travel. Flights from elsewhere in the UK and Ireland arrive without passport checks.
After border control you collect your bags in the reclaim hall and walk through customs into arrivals.
Outside, the plaza with the large Edinburgh sign leads to the tram stop and the Airlink 100 bus stop. The official taxi rank, run by Capital Cars, is in the East Terminus a short walk away; follow the taxi signs. Rideshare and many pre-booked cars collect passengers from the pick-up zone on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park, so check where your driver will meet you before you land.
Edinburgh weather is cool and changeable all year, so carry a waterproof layer. The UK uses the pound sterling and is on Greenwich Mean Time, moving to British Summer Time from late March to late October.
The tram and the Airlink 100 bus suit most travelers going to central Edinburgh, while a taxi or private transfer is easier with heavy luggage or outside tram hours.
Trams leave from the stop right outside the terminal every 7 minutes for much of the day, reaching the city center in about 30 minutes and continuing to Leith and Newhaven. The first tram leaves the airport at 06:30 and the last at 22:52.
Lothian's Airlink 100 runs from stop A outside the terminal to Waverley Bridge in about 30 minutes, every 8 to 10 minutes for most of the day. It also runs through the night at lower frequency.
The official rank in the East Terminus is operated by Capital Cars; exit via the plaza and follow the taxi signs. A taxi takes about 25 minutes to the city center, depending on traffic.
Uber pick-ups use the zone on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park, just outside the terminal. The trip to the city center takes about 20 to 25 minutes in normal traffic.
Pre-booked drivers collect passengers via the airport's pick-up zones and go door to door, which helps for Glasgow, St Andrews or the Highlands. It must be arranged in advance.
Scottish Citylink runs to Glasgow, Stirling and Oban, and Ember runs to Dundee, Fife, Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William. These are useful for onward travel without going into Edinburgh first.

Yes. The airport is within the City of Edinburgh area, at Ingliston on the western edge of the city, about 9 km (6 miles) from the center. It is outside the built-up core, so travelers take the tram, a bus, a taxi or a car to reach the Old Town, New Town or Leith.

Scottish Citylink also runs to Stirling and Oban. A rental car or private transfer suits travelers going directly to rural Highland or coastal destinations.
