Terminal 1
The smallest terminal, handling domestic flights only, currently those of Azul. It stands apart from Terminals 2 and 3 and has no jet bridges.
También conocido como: São Paulo Guarulhos Airport, Guarulhos Airport, GRU Airport, Cumbica Airport, São Paulo International Airport.

São Paulo/Guarulhos–Governor André Franco Montoro International Airport (GRU) is the main international airport for São Paulo, Brazil. Known simply as Guarulhos or GRU Airport, it handled 47.2 million passengers in 2025.
GOL, LATAM Airlines and Azul run large domestic networks from GRU to cities across Brazil, including Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Salvador, Recife and Porto Alegre. International carriers link it with North America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the rest of South America, with nonstop flights to cities such as Miami, New York, Lisbon, Madrid, Paris, Dubai, Johannesburg, Buenos Aires and Santiago.
The airport has three passenger terminals. Terminal 1 handles Azul's domestic flights, Terminal 2 handles GOL and LATAM domestic flights plus several international airlines, and Terminal 3 handles international flights only.
GRU sits in the city of Guarulhos, about 25 km (16 mi) northeast of downtown São Paulo. Uber gives an average ride of about 46 minutes to central São Paulo, though traffic can add considerably to that. CPTM Line 13-Jade connects the airport to the rail network, and a free people mover links the train station with all three terminals.
From the airport, travelers head to Avenida Paulista, the República and Luz areas of central São Paulo, the Barra Funda and Tietê bus terminals, and Congonhas Airport for domestic connections.

After landing on an international flight you pass through Federal Police immigration and then collect your bags and clear customs (Receita Federal). Citizens of the United States, Canada and Australia need a Brazilian e-visa, obtained online before travel, since April 10, 2025.
Baggage claim is inside each terminal, and the arrivals hall is just past the customs exit. If you land at Terminal 3 but need a domestic connection, check which terminal your next flight uses; Terminal 2 is about a 15-minute walk away, and Terminal 1 needs the people mover or shuttle bus.
Outside arrivals you will find the Guarucoop counters, the official airport taxi with fixed fares set by the Municipality of Guarulhos. Pre-booked drivers usually wait in the arrivals hall holding a name sign. Rideshare pickups are made at the curb of your terminal. Ignore anyone in the hall offering rides, and use only the official taxi counters, an app or a driver you arranged in advance.
São Paulo uses Brasília time (UTC-3) with no daylight saving time, and the currency is the Brazilian real (BRL). Summers from December to March are warm and often rainy.
Most travelers heading to central São Paulo take a taxi, a rideshare or a pre-booked transfer, while the train suits those traveling light outside rush hour.
Guarucoop is the official airport taxi, with counters in all terminals and fixed fares set by the Municipality of Guarulhos. It is the simplest door-to-door option, but road traffic into the city can be slow at peak times.
Uber and 99 operate at GRU and pick up at the curb of your terminal. Uber lists an average trip of about 46 minutes to central São Paulo; demand pricing can rise sharply when the airport is busy.
A pre-booked driver meets you in the arrivals hall of your terminal and takes you straight to your address. You need to share your flight number and terminal so the driver waits in the right place.
Airport Bus Service coaches leave from Terminals 2 and 3 for Avenida Paulista and República hotels, Congonhas Airport and the Tietê and Barra Funda bus terminals. They are comfortable, but the ride depends on traffic and drops you at set stops.
Take the free people mover to Aeroporto-Guarulhos station. Line 13-Jade runs to Engenheiro Goulart, where you change for the city, and the hourly Airport Express runs directly to Luz and Palmeiras-Barra Funda. Trains avoid road traffic but are awkward with heavy luggage.

Free airport buses link Terminal 1, Terminals 2 and 3 and the train station, running about every 15 minutes from 4:00 a.m. to midnight. They have been partly replaced by the people mover, so follow the airport signs.
Terminals 2 and 3 are connected on foot through the public area, a walk of about 15 minutes. Passengers on international flights can also pass between them airside.
Terminal 1 is separate from the other two, so you need the people mover, the shuttle bus or a car to reach it from Terminals 2 and 3.

Guarulhos airport is about 25 km (16 mi) northeast of downtown São Paulo. Uber gives an average trip of about 46 minutes to central São Paulo, but rush-hour traffic on the highways into the city can make the trip much longer. The train and people mover avoid road traffic but require a change for most central areas.
No. GRU is in the neighboring city of Guarulhos, in the Cumbica district, which is why it is also called Cumbica airport. It is part of greater São Paulo and serves as the city's main international airport, while Congonhas Airport, inside São Paulo itself, handles domestic flights only.
GRU has three passenger terminals. Terminal 1 is the smallest and handles domestic flights only. Terminal 2 is the largest, with most domestic flights and some international ones. Terminal 3 handles international flights only. Terminals 2 and 3 are connected on foot, while Terminal 1 stands apart and is reached by people mover or shuttle bus.
Azul domestic flights use Terminal 1. GOL and LATAM domestic flights use Terminal 2, along with international flights from airlines such as Aerolíneas Argentinas, Avianca, Ethiopian and Sky. Terminal 3 serves long-haul and LATAM international flights, plus airlines such as American, Delta, United, Emirates and TAP. The airport assigns flights daily, so confirm with your airline.
The free GRU Airport People Mover links Terminals 1, 2 and 3 and the train station, and it runs from 4:00 a.m. to midnight. Free shuttle buses also run between the terminals. Terminals 2 and 3 are connected by a walkway in the public area, a walk of about 15 minutes.
Yes. Guarucoop is the official airport taxi cooperative, with counters in all terminals and fixed fares set by the Municipality of Guarulhos. You can also book a Guarucoop car in advance through its app or by phone. Avoid people offering rides inside the arrivals hall and use the official counters instead.
Yes. CPTM Line 13-Jade runs from Aeroporto-Guarulhos station to Engenheiro Goulart, where you change trains for central São Paulo. The Airport Express service runs hourly directly to Luz and Palmeiras-Barra Funda stations. The free people mover connects the station with all three terminals.
Yes. Uber and 99 both operate at GRU, and drivers pick up at the curb of the terminal you select in the app. Uber lists an average trip of about 46 minutes to central São Paulo. Fares rise when demand is high, so compare with an official Guarucoop taxi if the app price looks high.
Yes. Airport Bus Service coaches leave from Terminals 2 and 3 on a circuit that stops at hotels along Avenida Paulista and in República. Other routes go to Congonhas Airport and the Tietê and Barra Funda bus terminals. Tickets for the Paulista circuit can be bought from the driver when boarding.
It depends on your passport. Citizens of the United States, Canada and Australia have needed a Brazilian e-visa since April 10, 2025, applied for online before travel through the official VFS Global portal. Many other nationalities, including most Europeans, can enter visa-free for tourism. Check the current rules for your nationality before you fly.
Airport Bus Service runs a route from Terminals 2 and 3 of GRU to Congonhas Airport, which handles domestic flights inside São Paulo. A taxi or rideshare is the other direct option. Allow plenty of time, because the trip crosses the city and road traffic in São Paulo can be heavy at peak hours.
São Paulo uses Brasília time, UTC-3, all year, because Brazil does not observe daylight saving time. The currency is the Brazilian real (BRL), and cards are widely accepted. Summers from December to March are warm and often rainy, while winters from June to August are mild and drier.
GRU is run under a concession by the GRU Airport company, led by Invepar with Airports Company South Africa, while Infraero holds 49%. The airport handled 47.2 million passengers in 2025, which makes it the busiest airport in Brazil. It opened on January 20, 1985.
