Sobre Helsinki Vantaa Airport

Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL) is the main international airport of Helsinki, Finland, located in the neighboring city of Vantaa. It handled about 17 million passengers in 2025, and nearly a third of them were connecting between flights.

Finnair uses the airport as its main hub, with flights across Europe and long-haul routes to Asia, North America and the Middle East, including Tokyo, Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul and New York. Norwegian has a base here, and other carriers include SAS, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Japan Airlines, Icelandair and Ryanair.

All flights use a single terminal, the former Terminal 2, split into Schengen and non-Schengen areas. A train station sits directly below the terminal on the Ring Rail Line.

The airport lies about 17 km north of central Helsinki, roughly 30 minutes by train or car. From here, travelers head into Helsinki, to the nearby Tikkurila district of Vantaa, to Espoo, and by connecting train or domestic flight to Tampere, Turku and Rovaniemi in Lapland.

Consejos de llegada a Helsinki Vantaa Airport

If you arrive from outside the Schengen Area, you pass border control before reaching baggage claim; flights from Schengen countries skip this step. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. All arriving passengers collect bags in the same baggage claim hall, then walk out through customs into the arrivals hall.

The arrivals hall is the airport's transport hub. The taxi station, with four lanes, is on the arrivals level, and the HSL bus stops are in front of the terminal. The train station is directly below the terminal and is reached by lift or escalator. Rides booked through apps and pre-ordered cars without a Finavia contract pick up in the P2 parking hall, which you reach directly from the arrivals hall by following the signs.

Helsinki is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2, UTC+3 in summer), and Finland uses the euro. Winters are cold and snowy, so keep warm clothes handy.

Transporte terrestre

The I and P commuter trains are the simplest way into central Helsinki for most travelers.

  • Train to Helsinki Central Station

I and P trains on the Ring Rail Line leave from the station directly below the terminal and take about 30 minutes to Helsinki Central Station. Buy tickets in the HSL app or at the platform machines; the trains run in opposite directions around the loop, so either one reaches the center.

  • Bus 600 to central Helsinki

HSL trunk bus 600 leaves from in front of the terminal on the arrivals level and takes about 40 minutes to the city center. It runs around the clock, which helps on late arrivals, but it is slower than the train.

  • Taxi from Helsinki airport

The taxi station is on the arrivals level and taxis are available 24 hours a day. The drive to central Helsinki takes about 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

  • Rideshare

Uber and Bolt both offer rides from the airport. App rides pick up in the P2 parking hall, reached directly from the arrivals hall.

  • Long-distance buses

Long-distance coaches link the airport with cities such as Turku, Tampere and Lahti. Check Matkahuolto for timetables, as services are less frequent than local transport.

  • Private transfer

A pre-booked driver can meet you at the airport and take you straight to your address, which suits groups and travelers with lots of luggage. Pick-up arrangements depend on the company.
