Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA) is the main international gateway to Nicaragua and is located approximately 11 kilometers (7 miles) east of Managua’s city center. It’s a small-to-medium-sized airport with one main terminal that handles both international and domestic flights. Despite its modest size, the airport is functional and efficient, serving over a million passengers each year. It offers basic amenities such as currency exchange, SIM card kiosks, ATMs, restaurants, and duty-free shops.
Named after Nicaraguan national hero Augusto César Sandino, the airport plays a vital role in connecting the capital city to popular tourist destinations throughout the country. Its central location makes it easy to access both the Pacific beaches and the northern highlands, making it a practical entry point for both leisure and business travelers.
