The trains are fast if you travel light, but they stop at a station, not your door: with suitcases that means lifts, ticket barriers and often a change onto the Underground at rush hour. A black cab runs on the meter, so the fare climbs with every traffic jam on the M4.

London Heathrow lies about 23 km west of central London, in the borough of Hillingdon, between the M4 and the M25. Typical drive times from the terminals, in normal traffic:

Heathrow has four terminals. Terminal 2 serves most Star Alliance airlines (Lufthansa, United, Air Canada, Singapore Airlines); Terminal 3 serves oneworld airlines (American, Cathay Pacific, Qantas) plus Virgin Atlantic and Delta; Terminal 4 serves SkyTeam airlines (Air France, KLM, Korean Air) plus Qatar Airways and Etihad; Terminal 5 is home to British Airways and Iberia. Terminals 2 and 3 share a central area; 4 and 5 are separate and linked by free trains. Some airlines use more than one terminal, so check your booking and give us your flight number.

About 20 to 30 minutes. Windsor is the closest of the classic day trips to Heathrow, and a private transfer takes you to your hotel or straight to the castle.

Yes. The drive around the M25 usually takes 60 to 90 minutes. There is no direct train between the two airports, so a private transfer avoids changes with your bags.
The Heathrow Express is quick if you are staying near Paddington and travel light. A private transfer is booked in advance at a fixed price per vehicle and takes you door to door, which suits families, groups, heavy luggage and late arrivals.

London spreads along the Thames across 32 boroughs and the City of London. The West End holds Mayfair, Soho, Covent Garden and the theatres of Shaftesbury Avenue; Westminster has Parliament, the Abbey and Buckingham Palace; the City and Canary Wharf are the financial districts.
