Bangkok Airways is a Thai airline headquartered in Bangkok. It was founded in 1968 as Sahakol Air, began scheduled flights in 1986 and took the Bangkok Airways name in 1989. It is not a member of an airline alliance, but it has codeshare agreements with many international airlines, including Japan Airlines and Etihad Airways.
Its hubs are Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport and Samui International Airport on Koh Samui, an airport the company built and operates. It also has bases in Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi and Hat Yai, and serves around 17 destinations in Thailand and nearby countries, including Cambodia, Laos and Hong Kong. Many of its domestic flights connect Bangkok with leisure islands and beach towns.
The fleet of about 22 aircraft combines Airbus A319 and A320 jets with ATR 72-600 turboprops.
