V. C. Bird International Airport (ANU) is the main airport of Antigua and Barbuda, on the island of Antigua in the eastern Caribbean. It stands in Osbourn, on the island's northeast side, about 8 km (5 miles) from the capital, St. John's.
Long-haul flights arrive from North America and Europe: American Airlines, Delta and United fly from Miami, New York, Atlanta and Newark, Air Canada Rouge and WestJet from Toronto, and British Airways and Virgin Atlantic from London. Caribbean Airlines, LIAT Air, Sunrise Airways, Winair and InterCaribbean link Antigua with Barbados, St. Kitts, Sint Maarten, Dominica, Tortola and other islands, while small commuter airlines fly to Barbuda, Montserrat, Anguilla and St. Barths.
All scheduled flights use one passenger terminal, opened in 2015, with four jet bridges and five baggage carousels. The airport is open 24 hours a day.
From the terminal, most travelers head to St. John's and its cruise port, the resorts of Dickenson Bay and the northwest coast, Jolly Harbour on the west coast, or English Harbour and Nelson's Dockyard in the south. Barbuda, the country's second island, is reached by a short flight or by ferry from St. John's.

Before you fly, complete the online immigration and customs declaration at ArriveAntigua.com within 72 hours of your flight; it replaces the old paper card and gives you a QR code to show on arrival. Your passport must be valid, and visa rules depend on your nationality.
After leaving the aircraft, you go first to immigration, where there are separate lines for residents and visitors; mixed parties can join either. Then collect your bags from the carousels in the baggage claim hall and pass through customs, where you show your QR code.
From customs you walk out of the terminal. Taxis wait just outside, and tour operators, hotel representatives and pre-booked drivers wait outside under the canopy. Taxi drivers at the airport wear uniforms and show a badge in the front window. Car rental companies run free shuttles from the airport to their rental lots.
Antigua is on Atlantic Standard Time all year and uses the Eastern Caribbean dollar, with US dollars widely accepted.
A taxi or pre-booked transfer is the usual way to leave the airport, since no public bus serves the terminal.
Taxis wait just outside the terminal, and fares to each area are fixed and posted. The ride to St. John's takes about 15 minutes; drivers sometimes carry other passengers going the same way.
Hertz, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Thrifty and several local companies serve the airport, with free shuttles to their rental lots. Traffic drives on the left, and visitors need a temporary local driving permit as well as their home license.
Many resorts and tour operators send representatives, who wait outside the terminal under the canopy.
A pre-booked car or van meets you outside arrivals, which suits families, groups, villa guests and trips to English Harbour or Jolly Harbour.
No public bus serves the terminal. Minibuses run from St. John's to villages around the island during the day, but they are not practical with luggage.

Yes. V. C. Bird International Airport, code ANU, is the international airport of Antigua and Barbuda, and most travelers simply call it Antigua airport. It was called Coolidge International Airport until 1985, when it was renamed after Sir Vere Cornwall Bird, the country's first prime minister. Any scheduled flight to Antigua lands here.
Antigua has one passenger terminal for all scheduled flights. It opened in August 2015 and has 46 check-in counters, self-service kiosks, four jet bridges and five baggage carousels. Arriving passengers clear immigration, collect their bags and pass customs before walking out to the taxis and the canopied pickup area outside the building.
American Airlines flies from Miami and New York JFK, Delta from Atlanta and United from Newark. Air Canada Rouge and WestJet fly from Toronto, and British Airways and Virgin Atlantic from London. Caribbean Airlines, LIAT Air, Sunrise Airways, Winair and InterCaribbean link Antigua with other Caribbean islands, and Condor adds seasonal flights from Frankfurt.
Yes. Visitors complete the immigration and customs declaration online at ArriveAntigua.com within 72 hours of their flight, on a phone, tablet or computer. It replaces the old paper card and produces a QR code that you show to immigration and customs on arrival. Keep it on your phone or print it before you fly.
You need a valid passport and, depending on your nationality, a visa, so check the rules for your passport before booking. Every visitor also completes the online ArriveAntigua declaration before the flight. On arrival you pass immigration, where visitors and residents have separate lines, then collect your bags and go through customs.

Yes. Hertz, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Thrifty and several local companies serve the airport and run free shuttles to their rental lots. Traffic in Antigua drives on the left, and most cars are right-hand drive. Visitors need their home driver's license plus a temporary local driving permit, which rental companies can help arrange.
No public bus serves the airport terminal. Minibuses link St. John's with villages around the island during the day, but they run from the city's bus stations, not from the airport, and are not practical with luggage. Most travelers take a taxi, a rental car, a hotel transfer or a pre-booked private transfer.
Barbuda is a separate island north of Antigua. Small commuter airlines such as BMN Air and FlyMontserrat fly there from V. C. Bird International Airport, landing in Codrington. The Barbuda Express ferry sails from the ferry dock in St. John's Harbour and takes about 90 minutes, so you need a taxi or transfer to the dock first.
Yes. V. C. Bird International Airport operates 24 hours a day, although most scheduled flights arrive and leave between morning and evening.
