Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic, in La Altagracia province, just inland from the coast. Commercial flights use two terminals, A and B, about 100 meters apart and linked by a walkway, and each has its own arrivals exit. Terminal B is the newer one, with automated border control; Terminal A has been renovated in phases since 2024.
You clear Dominican immigration in your arrival terminal, then collect your bags and pass customs. Lines at immigration can be long when several flights land together, especially in Terminal A. Exchange desks and ATMs are inside both terminals.
The Dominican Republic uses Atlantic Standard Time (UTC-4) all year, with no daylight saving time, so Punta Cana matches US Eastern time in summer and is one hour ahead of it in winter.
Dominican e-Ticket. Every traveler entering or leaving the Dominican Republic by air needs the free e-Ticket from eticket.migracion.gob.do, completed before airline check-in. One form covers up to seven travelers and generates a QR code to show at immigration. Visa rules depend on your nationality.
Check your terminal. Airline terminal assignments have shifted during the Terminal A renovation. Confirm your arrival and departure terminal with your airline and give it when you book, since the two terminals have separate arrivals exits.
Decline the touts. Many drivers approach arriving passengers outside the terminals. Go only with the driver named in your confirmation.
Resort and gated-community access. Cap Cana and many villa communities sit behind security gates. Give the resort name or full villa address, plus any gate access details, when you book.

It depends on your airline, and assignments have changed during the Terminal A renovation. Many Canadian, European and Latin American flights use Terminal A, while JetBlue, Frontier, Aeroméxico, LATAM and Sky Airline have used Terminal B. Confirm with your airline before you travel.
Bávaro, the largest resort area near the airport, is about 15 to 30 minutes away depending on which end of the beach your hotel is on. Punta Cana Village is closer, about 10 to 15 minutes.
Yes. Cap Cana is around 15 to 25 minutes from the airport. Give your resort name or villa address and any gate details when you book, and your driver takes you through security to the door.
Yes. Uvero Alto is one of the farthest resort areas from PUJ, roughly 40 to 60 minutes north past Bávaro and Macao, so a private transfer straight to your resort saves the stops a shared shuttle makes.
Yes. La Romana is about 1 hour 15 minutes west of the airport, and Bayahibe roughly 50 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes, both along the Autovía del Este. Enter your hotel in the booking card to see the vehicles for the route.
Yes. Santo Domingo is about 200 km west of the Punta Cana area along the Autovía del Este. A private vehicle takes you and your luggage straight to your hotel or address in the capital.
