About Muscat International Airport

Muscat International Airport (MCT) is the international airport serving Muscat, the capital of Oman, and the wider Muscat Governorate. It is the hub of Oman Air and SalamAir, which link Muscat with the Gulf, the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, East Africa and Europe, and with Salalah, Khasab and Duqm inside Oman. Other airlines include Emirates, flydubai, Qatar Airways, Gulf Air, Etihad Airways, Air Arabia, Turkish Airlines, IndiGo and Air India Express.

All scheduled passenger flights, international and domestic, use one terminal, which opened in 2018. The original terminal, opened in 1973, no longer handles commercial flights.

The airport stands in Seeb, in the western part of the capital area along Sultan Qaboos Highway, about 32 km from Old Muscat. The drive into the city center usually takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic, and hotels in Shatti Al Qurum are about 20 minutes away.

From the airport, travelers head to Muttrah and its Corniche, Old Muscat, Ruwi, Qurum and Shatti Al Qurum, Al Mouj Muscat and the beach resorts along the coast, or inland to Nizwa and the Hajar Mountains.

Arrival tips for Muscat International Airport

After you leave the aircraft, follow the Arrivals signs to immigration. Citizens of more than 100 countries can enter Oman visa-free for up to 14 days if they meet the entry conditions, while others need an e-visa approved before travel; your passport should be valid for at least six months. Travelers with reduced mobility have a dedicated path and immigration counter.

Collect your bags in the baggage reclaim hall, then pass through customs into the public arrivals hall. Currency exchange counters, ATMs and SIM card desks for Omantel, Ooredoo and Renna Mobile are in the arrivals area, and the car rental desks are open 24 hours. Airport taxis are booked at the taxi office in the arrivals hall and leave from the taxi area just outside the terminal, while Mwasalat buses leave from the bus station on the ground floor outside the building. Hotel and tour representatives meet passengers after customs.

Oman is on Gulf Standard Time (UTC+4) all year, and the currency is the Omani rial (OMR).
