Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ) sits in Soledad, the municipality bordering Barranquilla to the south, on Colombia's Caribbean coast. It has a single passenger terminal with a domestic pier and an international pier, so every flight arrives in the same building and leaves through the same exit.
On an international flight you clear Colombian immigration first, then collect your bags and pass customs before stepping into the public arrivals area. Domestic passengers go straight to baggage claim. The terminal is compact, so the walk from the gate to the exit is short.
Barranquilla runs on Colombia time (UTC-5) all year, with no daylight saving time, and it is hot and humid in every season.
Check-MIG form. Migración Colombia's Check-MIG form is no longer mandatory for air travelers, but it is still recommended and can speed up immigration. It is free and can be completed online from 72 hours to one hour before your flight. Visa rules depend on your nationality.
The airport is in Soledad. Signs and addresses may list the airport under Soledad, Atlántico, rather than Barranquilla. When you book, give the full street address of where you are staying, including the neighborhood, so your driver goes straight there.
Carnival dates. The Barranquilla Carnival, in the days before Ash Wednesday, fills hotels and closes streets around the parade routes. If you are traveling for it, book your transfer early and give the exact address and any access instructions for your stay.
