Birmingham Airport (BHX) is the main airport for Birmingham and the West Midlands, in England, United Kingdom. It sits near Bickenhill in Solihull, east-southeast of Birmingham city center, next to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), and a free Air-Rail Link connects it with Birmingham International station.
All flights use a single terminal, formed in 2011 by joining the airport's two older terminals. You clear UK passport control first: many visitors can use the automatic eGates, while others queue at the staffed desks, and queues can build when several flights land together. After baggage claim you use the green channel if you have nothing to declare or the red channel if you do, and come out into the arrivals hall, where pre-booked drivers meet passengers.
The UK is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) in winter and British Summer Time (BST, GMT+1) from late March to late October.
UK ETA. Most visa-exempt visitors need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) approved before they fly to the UK; visitors who need a visa apply for that instead. British and Irish passport holders do not need one.
Not in Schengen. The UK runs its own border control, so international arrivals go through UK passport checks even if you started your trip in the EU.
