El Dorado International Airport (BOG) is Bogotá's airport and Colombia's main international gateway, on the western edge of the city in Fontibón. It is the main hub of Avianca.
Most passenger flights use the main terminal, which has separate domestic and international areas on different levels. International passengers clear immigration, collect their bags and pass through customs into the international arrivals hall; domestic passengers exit straight from baggage claim.
The airport sits at about 2,600 m (8,500 ft), and Bogotá is cool all year. Colombia is on Colombia Time (UTC−5) all year, with no daylight saving.
Check-MIG form. Foreign visitors complete Migración Colombia's Check-MIG form online before the flight. Depending on your passport, you may also need a visa.
Altitude. At about 2,600 m, many visitors feel tired or short of breath on the first day. Drink water and go easy on exercise and alcohol.
Unsolicited drivers. Decline offers from drivers who approach you inside the terminal; your pre-booked driver waits in the arrivals hall.
Cool weather. Bogotá is cool all year, so keep a light jacket handy, even if you are heading on to the coast.
