Brindisi Airport (BDS), officially Aeroporto del Salento and also called Papola Casale, is on the northern edge of Brindisi, and Aeroporti di Puglia runs it. All flights use one terminal, with arrivals and baggage claim on the ground floor and security and the departure gates on the first floor.
Flights from Italy and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks; from outside the Schengen area, including the UK, you line up at passport control. After baggage claim you walk through customs into the arrivals hall, where pre-booked drivers meet passengers. In summer the small terminal gets busy, so allow extra time at baggage claim.
Italy is on Central European Time (UTC+1) and switches to UTC+2 for daylight saving time from late March to late October. It uses the euro.
Entry requirements and local notes
Schengen entry. Italy is in the Schengen area. Non-EU travelers arriving from outside it are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), with fingerprints and a photo; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Brindisi or Bari. Puglia has two main airports. This page is for Brindisi (BDS); if your ticket shows BRI, book on our Bari Airport Transportation page instead.
Limited-traffic zones. The historic centers of Lecce, Ostuni and Brindisi are pedestrian or limited-traffic zones (ZTL), so give your full address; your driver stops at the nearest point a car can reach.
Euro and cash. Italy uses the euro. Cards are widely accepted, but carry some cash for small shops, cafés and the local tourist tax some towns charge at your accommodation.
