Cagliari Elmas Airport (CAG) is in Elmas, on the northwestern edge of Cagliari in southern Sardinia, and SOGAER runs it. All flights use one terminal: arrivals and baggage claim are on the ground floor, and Schengen and non-Schengen flights come out through separate exits into the same arrivals hall.
Flights from Italy and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks; from outside the Schengen area, including the UK, the US and Canada, you line up at passport control before baggage claim. After customs you come out into the arrivals hall, where pre-booked drivers meet passengers.
Sardinia is on Central European Time (UTC+1) and switches to UTC+2 from late March to late October. Italy uses the euro.
Schengen entry. Italy is in the Schengen area. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Limited-traffic zones. Cagliari's historic quarters of Castello, Marina, Stampace and Villanova, and the Poetto seafront, have limited-traffic zones (ZTL) at set hours. Give your full address; where cars cannot enter, your driver stops at the nearest point a car can reach.
Sant'Efisio festival. On 1 May, the Sant'Efisio procession fills central Cagliari and closes streets in the center, so allow for detours on that day.
Official taxis and ride offers. Take taxis only from the official rank outside the terminal, and turn down people who offer rides inside arrivals.
