Catania–Fontanarossa Airport (CTA), also called Vincenzo Bellini Airport, is on the southern edge of Catania on Sicily's east coast, and SAC runs it. Every flight arrives at Terminal A; Terminal C, nearby, handles only easyJet's Schengen departures, so all arriving passengers exit into the same arrivals hall.
Flights from Italy and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks; from outside the Schengen area, including the UK, the US and Canada, you line up at passport control before baggage claim. After customs you come out into the ground-floor arrivals hall, where pre-booked drivers meet passengers. In summer, lines at passport control and baggage claim can be long when several flights land together.
Sicily is on Central European Time (UTC+1) and switches to UTC+2 from late March to late October. Italy uses the euro.
Schengen entry. Italy is in the Schengen area. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Etna ash. When Mount Etna erupts, ash can close Catania airport or divert flights to other Sicilian airports. Check your flight status on the day you travel, and tell us at once if you land somewhere else.
Limited-traffic zones. Taormina's historic center around Corso Umberto and parts of Ortigia in Syracuse are limited-traffic zones (ZTL). Give your full address; where cars cannot enter, your driver stops at the nearest point a car can reach.
Official taxis and ride offers. Licensed taxis are white with a roof sign and a license number on the doors. Turn down people who offer rides inside the terminal.

The airport is about 4 km (2.5 miles) southwest of central Catania, usually 15 to 20 minutes by car. Taormina is about 65 km north, roughly an hour's drive along the A18, and Syracuse is about an hour to the south.
