Charleston International Airport (CHS) is in North Charleston and is run by the Charleston Regional Aviation Authority, sharing its runways with Joint Base Charleston. It has one terminal with two concourses behind a single security checkpoint: Concourse A at the east end and Concourse B at the west end.
Most flights are domestic, so you walk straight from your gate to Baggage Claim at the west end of the terminal. Passengers from Toronto clear US border checks in Canada before they fly; other international arrivals go through US Customs and Border Protection in Concourse B first. Charleston International Airport is in North Charleston, about 12 miles (19 km) northwest of the historic district, usually 20 to 30 minutes by car outside rush hour. Mount Pleasant and Isle of Palms are about 30 to 40 minutes away, and Kiawah Island about an hour.
