Chennai International Airport (MAA) is at Meenambakkam, southwest of the city, and the Airports Authority of India runs it. International flights use the new integrated Terminal 2; domestic flights use Terminal 1 and Terminal 4, side by side along the same frontage.
From an international flight you go to immigration in Terminal 2, then baggage claim and customs, with a green channel for travelers with nothing to declare. Domestic passengers go straight from the gate to baggage claim. Only ticketed passengers may be inside the terminals, so you meet your driver outside the arrivals exit.
India is on India Standard Time (UTC+5:30) all year and uses the Indian rupee.
Visa and e-Arrival Card. Most foreign visitors need an Indian visa or e-Visa approved before departure. Since 1 April 2026 all foreign nationals, including OCI cardholders, must also file the e-Arrival Card online within 72 hours before landing and show its QR code at immigration.
Meeting outside the terminal. Only passengers with a ticket may enter Indian terminal buildings, so your driver waits outside the arrivals exit, not in the hall.
Check your departure terminal. For the ride back, domestic flights leave from Terminal 1 or Terminal 4; IndiGo's ATR turboprop flights (numbers 7000 to 7999) depart from Terminal 4. International flights leave from Terminal 2.
Indian rupees. India uses the rupee. Carry a little local cash or use an ATM in arrivals for small purchases and tips.

The airport is about 21 km (13 miles) southwest of the city center. The drive to T. Nagar or Mylapore usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic on GST Road and Anna Salai, and rush hour can make it longer.
