Providenciales, known locally as Provo, is the most developed of the Turks and Caicos Islands and where most visitors stay. The resorts, restaurants and villas line the north shore along Grace Bay Beach, with quieter stretches at Leeward to the east and the kitesurfing beach of Long Bay on the south coast. To the west, Turtle Cove and its marina, the turquoise lagoon of Chalk Sound and the calm shallows of Taylor Bay round out an island small enough to cross in about half an hour.
