Lufthansa is the flag carrier of Germany and the largest airline in the Lufthansa Group, one of Europe's biggest airline groups. Its roots go back to 1926, and the modern company was founded in 1953 and began scheduled flights in 1955. In 1997 it was one of the five founding members of the Star Alliance.

Its hubs are Frankfurt and Munich, from which Lufthansa and its group airlines serve more than 200 destinations in Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Lufthansa City Airlines flies short-haul routes from the hubs, and Discover Airlines operates many leisure routes for the group, including flights to Mexico and the Caribbean.

On long-haul aircraft Lufthansa is rolling out Allegris, its new generation of cabins across First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy. Miles & More is the loyalty program shared by the group's airlines.
