Frankfurt Airport (FRA), officially Flughafen Frankfurt Main, is Germany's busiest airport and Lufthansa's main hub, southwest of central Frankfurt where the A3 and A5 motorways meet. Two terminals handle passengers: Terminal 1, for Lufthansa and most Star Alliance airlines, and Terminal 3, opened in April 2026 for most other airlines. Terminal 2 closed in June 2026 for renovation, and the free SkyLine train links Terminals 1 and 3.
If you arrive from outside the Schengen Area, you pass passport control first; flights from other Schengen countries skip it. You then collect your bags and go through customs into the arrivals area of your terminal.
Frankfurt is on Central European Time (UTC+1) and moves to UTC+2 from late March to late October.
Entry rules. Germany is in the Schengen Area. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you travel.
Check your terminal. Many airlines moved to Terminal 3 in 2026 and Terminal 2 is closed, so confirm whether your flight uses Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 before you land.
