Gold Coast Airport (OOL), often still called Coolangatta Airport, sits at the southern end of the Gold Coast, beside the New South Wales border. All flights use one terminal: domestic arrivals come out at the northern end and international arrivals at the southern end.
On an international flight you pass immigration, collect your bags, then clear customs and biosecurity before entering the International Arrivals hall. Domestic passengers collect their bags and walk through the Domestic Arrivals corridor into the arrivals hall, where the car rental desks are.
The airport keeps Queensland time, UTC+10, all year with no daylight saving, and uses the Australian dollar.
Visa or ETA. Every visitor except New Zealand citizens needs a visa or travel authority before flying, such as an ETA through the AustralianETA app or an eVisitor for many European passports.
Arrival card and biosecurity. Declare food, plant material and animal products on the Incoming Passenger Card you fill in on the plane. Undeclared items can bring biosecurity penalties.
Two time zones at the border. The airport and the Gold Coast stay on Queensland time all year, but Tweed Heads, Kingscliff and Byron Bay in New South Wales move one hour ahead from October to April, so check which clock your hotel check-in uses.
Terminal hours. The terminal closes overnight, from 23:00 to 4:00, so give your exact flight time for a late arrival or an early departure.
